How do you get your baby's birth certificate and SS#?
Is that something you do through the hospital or on your own?
Just wondering how it works with insurance and all.

We did both at the hospital (North Shore)- someone came around with some forms to fill out and that was it - it was really simple!

Hospital ..
i got birth cert in 3 weeks and finally today i got SS card Yippy, thought i would have to down to office on monday and find out about.. it took almost 6 wks for ss.

With my insurance (Empire BCBS) I had to add the baby on within 30 days of birth and they told me not to worry about her ss# until it came in the mail. I just used my insurance id card for her until I got hers.
I got her ss card very fast but the birth cert took a long time to arrive. (Town of Huntington)

we got ours very quickly... i just had to fill out paperwork at the hospital!

It was part of the forms I had to fill out in the hospital. I received both within 2-3 weeks.

We did it at the hospital. I just got the SS Card in the mail yesterday - Day 12.
You do not need the SSN or the BC to put your child on your insurance. At least I didn't (Oxford).

just make sure your DH is around when you do it, because you need his info and signature also! For the life of me I couldn't remember his work address!

At the hospital they gave me the papers to fill out and they took care of getting it to the right places. I already received both her bc & her ss card.

abou 3.5 weeks to get the SS # and about 5 weeks to get the birth certificate.
we asked the hospital to do it for us. its on the form where they ask for the babys name, etc. made it so easy.
