How do you get your DC to TRY new foods?
I really can't complain - Jack is an amazing eater -- IF - I fed him the same things over and over. Here are some things that he loves:
Peas, corn, and pasta Pizza Oatmeal Pancakes French Toast Cheeseburgers Baked beans Banana Muffins Ravioli Chicken Nuggets French Fries Every fruit out there
I am trying to get him to try new things and it's really becoming such a battle.
Should I just stick to the things I know he likes - that way he'll eat - and I don't need to worry.
We did get him to eat Lentils soup the other day - but what a production that was.
OR - should I keep introducing the new things and hopefully he will eventually eat. If he doesnt' eat the new then he doesn't eat?
He won't even let me get it into his mouth to know that he doesn't like it. That's the most frustrating part.
What do you do?

Don't ask me
I know - I felt kind of guilty even posting this bc he does eat alot - but I want him to try different things. I'm a pretty picky eater - and if he follows after me he will basically only live on cheese (which ironically he doesn't eat really )

I hear you, even though he eats a # of things I could see why you'd want him to broaden his horizons. And yes, I am the pickiest eater too, I wonder where DD gets it from

Just keep offering them and dont fall into a rut of only making him what you know he will eat. You might have to offer him brocolli with his chicken nuggets 40 times before he will eventually eat it but he will try it in the long run.
Pick a few foods to try and/or just keep offering new foods from your dinner. He'll eventually get used to what they look like...
It does work...it just might take awhile.

Would you give him a new food - with an old food that you know he will def eat?
My concern with that is - he will ONLY eat the oldie but goodie

I guess I would just keep trying (can I tell you how many bananas we've had to throw out b/c she refuses to eat them, but I keep trying. Seriously, dozens and dozens ). It is tough, I'm in the same rut too...we want them to eat but we want them to expand their tastes.
Can you combine some things? Like what would you like him to try eating that he's not loving right now? For example: if you want him to eat more veggies, maybe get spinach ravioli or butternut squash ravioli? Or sweet potato fries?
As for the lentil soup...he ate it eventually, right? That's good. Take it from me, it takes me FOREVER to feed DD, esp. something I'm trying to get her to try new. If he ate some of it, that's a start. Keep offering it!

Re: How do you get your DC to TRY new foods?
I think Jack eats a pretty good assortment of things.
Thomas will pretty much try anything. If he refuses something after he's tried it, since he's usually such a good eater, I usually don't push him and chalk it up to he just doesn't like _______. The only exception is that he isn't a big vegetable eater so I do keep trying with those. Sometimes he eats them, sometimes he doesn't, but I'll keep trying...

I am in the same boat. Ds eats a pretty good variety of things, but absolutely refuses anything new. I have just started a new plan. Each week I buy something new, this week was broccoli....everynight regardless of what he is having I make a little bit of broccoli and put it on his plate. I ask a few times for him to try it, but don't force the issue........so far he hasn't tried the broccoli. LOL!!! but I am going to keep trying and hopefully one day he will atleast taste it. I plan to do something new each week and repeat again until he tries it or I get sick of making it. Good luck! If you find something that works fill me in.

That's the thing - he will eat all of the veggies - it's more like I am sick of just the frozen veggies and want to make them as meals: He loves sweet potato fries. He will basically eat any kind of ravioli that I give him.
What I want him to try is:
Ex: Brocolli and chedder quiche. Today was yummy cheesey mashed potatoes. Sweet pea casserole (the kid lives on peas - but wouldn't eat this) - I'm trying to think of the other things that I've made that he looks at me with ten heads!

Yeah but he'll get used to the way the new food looks and eventurally try it.

Re: How do you get your DC to TRY new foods?
What seems to happen with us, if I want DD to try something new...I AM the one who is eating it and she'll be ineterested in it...she always seems to want what we're eating, so when she asks to taste....there's the introduction to something new!

Put it on your fork and give it to him or let him reach over and eat off of your plate. Just keep trying the food over and over again.

Re: How do you get your DC to TRY new foods?
I keep offering it and make a big show out of how much I like it.
It also seems much more appealing when it's on my plate and not theirs for some reason.

Re: How do you get your DC to TRY new foods?
Honestly I just give it to her on a spoon or cut up small on her tray - she will try most everything - whether she LIKES it or not is another story. I don't know from one day to the next - but she will try most everything. She spits a lot out on the first try but if I try to give her more she will usually eat it.
Can you try mixing it with something he likes - like a new fruit with yogurt or with other fruit you know he likes, or mix a new veggie in mash potatoes or in pasta or with meat. I find this helps when DD doesn't want to eat something I want her to.
