How do you keep a bouquet of roses alive?

My BF gets me a dozen or two roses each year for our anniversary, and each year they are dead within a week. I have no luck keeping them alive! Does anyone have any tips and tricks to making them last a bit longer? I know he spends a small fortune on the arrangement and vase and I feel bad I can't make them last :/

Cut the stems on an angle under water after a few days. Change the water too and use that packet that comes with the bouquet.

Believe it or not bleach...put a cap full of bleach per gallon of water...typically a vase is half a gallon or less... Plus trim the stems under water before putting them in the vase....ie in a pot or sink with water.

I agree with the cut on an angle. I also put a penny at the bottom of the vase. Change the water and use the food packet from the florist. Use a little of the food packet for each new water change.

Yup, I do this all the time. The flowers stay open and look fresh for well over a week and the water is nice and clear.

I change the water every 2 days though.

Keeping the water cold (using ice cubes) helps
