How do you keep your life and house uncluttered?

I'm tired of things not having a spot. They take over!!! I need ideas!

I wish I could help. I went through this last night with DH. I can't stand all the clutter we have!

I live with my DH, who is a neat freak...that's how I keep my life uncluttered.

DH hates anything out of place---unless it is his cause then he thinks wherever he puts it is the place it belongs.

Well, one thing I do to keep the clutter to a minimum is look at the mail every day and immediately toss the junk mail in the trash, shread the credit card applications, and deal with all the rest of it.

For all of the bills and important papers we have accordian expandable files - and put the papers in there. Depending upon what it is, we shread certain papers after a few years, other things like taxes are kept for longer periods of time.

As for stuff, everything needs a home. How is your kitchen pantry? Do you have a lot of unused multiples? Or do you keep the plastic containers from the deli where you have a huge drawer full of them? It might be time to edit the collection or donate unused goods to the charity of your choice.

Im bad with this, I am constantly throwing things out. If I havent used it in a year or dont even remember putting it in the closet- it gets thrown out. I hate clutter. DH on the other hand keeps everything

I shred as much paper as I can, and have a policy for myself that I can't bring anything into the house without taking something of equal size out and tossing it. This stops me from buying things I don't really need, or holding on to stuff for too long.

I also try to keep like with like, so all scrapbook stuff (that I never use ) is all in one place, all photos in another, etc.

I still have too much stuff laying around though.

Every few weeks, I rip everything out of the closets in my apartment and throw out any junk that has accumulated and resort and organize everything else. It's actually not hard since we do it every few weeks. I do the same thing with my desk and my closet in my classroom. We may not be the best at maintaining the order, but we are good at re-arranging every few weeks or so. Also, every weekend, I sort through all the crap on my table and around my computer. I just don't have the time during the week. However, the weeks that JT is home on M, Tu and Fri, he cleans like a fiend. Gotta love it!

While we were away, my MILs friend came in and changed one of our clothes closets (in foyer) into a "pantry/storage closet"..
He just added shelves for us! I will take a pic and try to post it! It was DHs idea, and mil knew someone...Came home from FL and stuff was all over the kitchen..I was like WTH? I opened the closet and BAM its not a closet really anymore..LOL
I was so surprised, she surprised us, of course we have the bill to go along with the work..LOL

resized pic, get it in email, and its blank 1st its the avatar, now, that works...now resizer doesn't work! I give up!

DH is the good one with this- he tries to keep it under control. it's sometimes hard though b/c we have a small apartment, and cant really throw out alot of stuff because we Do need it. that said... we try to purge every few weeks or so.

I happen to be the neat freak in this relationship. I am constantly throwing things out and rearranging. things. It actually puts me in a bad mood when I see clutter. And, if it's that time of the month, watch out! My DH needs to have clutter somewhere so his truck is an absolute mess most of the time and his corner of our bedroom has stuff everywhere. I know I can be over the top so I try to accept his areas of clutter.
