How do you know if your baby is constipated?
Since he's been born, Matthew has been pooping a lot and now he hasn't as much. His last poop was last night and then today he pooped but it was a little dry, but the color was yellow it was just not the pasty wet yellow kind. Is he constipating?
Could it be the formula brand? At the hospital he drank similac and when we got home we put him on Enfamil. Doctor said both formulas were basically the same.
He's peeing more than he's pooping now so another fear is that he is not getting enough to eat. Doctor said not to be concerned right now but being a first time mom, i'm still going to worry.

Honestly, the first couple of weeks their poop will change a lot...Bella's was all over the place and she actually projectile pooped when she was like three weeks old...weird...
The only time I would really get concerned is if he stops all together and that's only a real issue if a few days pass. Babies bellies are all over the place adjusting the first few months...
And if he's peeing a lot, that's actually very good. It means he's well hydrated...breast-fed mamas actually count the wet diapers to make sure they are getting enough.
Even now, the first thing the doc says when Bella gets sick and doesn't want to eat, is if her diapers are still wet, she's OK...
I know it's all confusing, but they will constantly keep you on your toes!

Well I am keeping track of peeing as well as the pooping. This is only the beginning of worrying about your child...

Re: How do you know if your baby is constipated?
If he was constipated, he would definately be trying to tell you his belly was bothering him. They usually cry from being constipated, esp over a long period (I think they say 24-48hrs is normal?) I remember Lucy giving Alessia apple juice and water (Dr's orders) and the whole family rejoiced to see her poop
Is he fussing or crying nonstop? You really should stop worrying mamma bella !
