How do you know when they are ready to potty train?

DD never tells us when she has to urinate - but - for the past few weeks - has been saying poopy a lot. For the past week or two she comes over and grabs my arm and says Mommy - poopy potty, mommy poopy potty.

We got DD a potty just to have it around in case she showed interest - but that is as far as it went.

The yesterday she said poopy potty - I got it out and she took off her pants and her diaper - but she just sat on it for like 20 mins - and laughed. This happened again today - but she doesn't actually go on it. So I figured she isn't ready? Right? Of course when I tried to put her diaper on she threw a FIT. She goes about 20-45 mins after telling me poopy potty btw?

I really don't want to rush her but I don't want to hold her back KWIM? But since she never says pee pee and potty I am assuming she isn't ready in that respect.

I think it is great that she is sitting on the potty ....that is step one, just put her on it periodically to get her used to it Chat Icon

That is okay to do even if she doesn't go? I just don't want her to think it is a game/toy versus a potty kwim? How long do I let her sit on it?- 10 mins? 20? 40 mins?

So when you are home you just automatically put him on the potty every 30 mins? What do you do when you go out?
