How do you research a doctor?
Is there anyway to find out about a doctor? I have a list sitting infront of me but I don't know who is good/bad...
I'd hate to just randomly choose.

I think WebMD has a doctor search or google him.

I check this
You can see if they have been sued recently, their education, their board certification, etc...

Re: How do you research a doctor?
I check the ny doctor profile that was linked above - it is not completely accurate as it won't show if someone has 20 open suits/claims and it takes forever to get a judgement or settlement on there.
You can also check out NY magazine's The Best Doctors in New York - then narrow down your search thru the ny dr profile to pick one.
You should check where they went to school - where they did their residency, are they board certified, are they an MD or DO, do they have a lot of suits or settlements, OPMC problems?
The AMA is okay but many really good doctors don't belong to it - it is more important to see if they are board certified in the area you are seeing them in (i.e. if you go to a gastro make sure they are board certified in gastro and not just in Internal medicine)
hope that helped some

agreed. One of my docs made the list on NY Magazine but some others didn't. I told them to step up next time (yeah right).
I also go by doctor and patient referrals. I ask my docs if I can contact some of their patients. Some allow this. I've done this and it was well worth the peace of mind.
Getting word of mouth referrals and doc referrals are very important.

You can also check ratemd.com, which will give you other peoples opinions on a doctor.
