How do you "solve and check" patterns?

Idk how to do my 4th graders hw!! She is using the envision math workbook.

What is the problem? Depends on what it is to see how you would check it. For example if it is 4+3=7 you would do 7-3=4 or something like that. If it is an algebra question you would solve for that and plug it in.

I am not sure if this is it, but I tell my class that to check it, they must do the opposite operation. Take the answer and either add or subtract, depending on the problem (or multiply/divide).

ex: 432-121=
First solve. The answer is 311. Now take the 311 and ADD it to the 121 since addition is opposite of subtraction. 311+121=432.

ex: 30/6=5. To check, 5x6=30

This was for patterns not typical addition or multiplication. So there was a series of numbers and shapes in patterns. How do you check your work with that?
