How do you sooth your newborn?
Baby Sal is only 3 days old and goes through phases of fussiness...
What do you do? I feel so bad!!

Re: How do you sooth your newborn?
DH used to sing to Nate while walking around the room when he was fussy. Now he just likes to lay on your chest with your head against his.
Are you using a pacifier?

Yes..but sometimes it's not working and he is just freaking out...he's fed, burped and changed. Boy, now I know what people mean by sleepless nights! And it's only been 2 so far!!

swing, bouncy seat on vibrate, dance around, hum a song, sing a song, change positions if all else fails hand him to DH and let him try for an hour

Run the vacuum or the hair dryer. Go for a drive.

Re: How do you sooth your newborn?
bathroom faucet is the only thing to calm sidney down. If it doesn't work it means she is hungry. Good luck....
P.S. Did you read Happiest Baby on the block...seems to work a little bit.

This worked and turning on the vent over the stove, he loved the white noise!

Re: How do you sooth your newborn?
I learned that babies can not focus on more than a couple things at a time. So I would hold Ryan tight, bounce up and down (the mommy bounce-you'll be doing it till he's 18), pat or rub his back and whisper shh shh shhh in his ear. It worked pretty good. Let me know how it works for you.
Ps- when it was just general fussiness the swing or vibrating chair were awesome.

Re: How do you sooth your newborn?
Shhhhhhhhh'ing is a white noise and supposed to be really calming... We did anything!!! Singing (or humming) worked sometime, bouncing, laying the baby over my knees (while siting) and rubbing his back in a circular motion... tap on the pacifier while it is in your babys mouth.... another bottle.... Eventually we gave him a spoon of cereal.. He was also 10-5, so nothing could fill him... Use your instinct.. It will fine tune within a couple of weeks!!! Good Luck until theN!

I hold marissa over my shoulder and rock back and forth and SSSSHHHHHHing her other wise I would bounce with her and rock side to side doing the sssshhhing thing. Patting the ba ck and booty worked as well
