How does the clomid process work?
I know once I get AF (after taking provera) I will call to go in for CD3 testing. Then what happens? I know I take clomid for X amount of days - but how do they know it's working? And how do they know when you're going to ovulate? How frequently do they monitor you?

Re: How does the clomid process work?
Well, I'll give you the example of the cycle I am on now. CD3 I went in for blood/sono and started clomid that night. Took clomid for 5 days. Then I went today (CD12) for blood and sono. I have good follies, so I am ready to ovulate. Since I do not surge on my own, tomorrow I will get a trigger and friday will be my IUI. If I didn't have any good sized follies today, I would have come back in a few days to see what is going on. If I didn't need a trigger, they would have me use opk's until I got a surge, then would come in for testing.

Thanks for the info! Since I am new to this whole process, I don't really know if I surge on my own. I have PCOS, so chances are, I won't. If that's the case, will my doctor give me a trigger? AND will he then tell me to go home and BD?? We aren't going the IUI route just yet - we're going to try timed intercourse first.
Also, if they don't give me a trigger, would I use the opk's until I got a positive reading and then call to go in? Won't it be too late by then??
As you can see, I still have a lot to learn.
Best of luck to you!!
BTW, what practice do you go to?

Re: How does the clomid process work?
This is how my 4 IUI/Clomid cycles went with my RE
CD3 bloodwork and sono CD3-7 - Clomid 100mgs
CD10 -??? OPK's When I detected a surge, or anything close to it, I would go in for bloodwork and sono so they could see what was going on. If it turned out I was surging, they would give me the trigger, and we'd do back to back IUI's. If I wasn't quite ready, the doctor would let me know to come back 2 days later to check my follicles again.

Re: How does the clomid process work?
I didnt do trigger shots or IUI...
I would take the clomid for the five days and then go in for a follicle check around day 12... I O VERY late on clomid and usually not much would be going on so I would go back ever few days for sonos to check things. Then I would use OPK's and when I got a positive BD for the next three days. Then I would go in a week later for a blood test to make sure I ovulated and then call when I got AF or a BFP

Re: How does the clomid process work?
Didnt use OPK for any of my clomid cycles. RE always did the bloodwork. CD3 went in for sono and prescription for clomid. Clomid for five days. Went back in around CD11 for sono and bloodwork. Depending on how follies were doing they would keep having me come back in. When follies go to certain size they would call me that afternoon to let me know if I was getting ready to ovulate based upon my bloodwork. If no O (I have PCOS too and only O'd once on my own) then went in the next day for shot and then IUI the next day (which for you would be when you start BDing!

Thanks for the info!
Has anyone used clomid and just tried timed intercourse without IUI? Is it a "waste" to use clomid with BD? Or is it possible to get a BFP?

Out of my 6 clomid cycles, only my first one was with timed intercourse.

Re: How does the clomid process work?
Generally my cycles went like this... CD 3- bloodwork/sono started Clomid CD 3- CD7 Clomid Returned around CD 12 for sono and blood (checked follie size) From there it really depended on how big my follies were as to when I came back in..Once they got to know me and how I respond I was able to go in less frequently...I don't ovulate on my own so once they say a follie measuring 18'ish and lining looked good they would usually give me my trigger and IUI would be the following day...Just looked at all my past cycles and on average I was there 5-6 days throughout a cycle...HTH !!!!

I was about to start a Clomid cycle but by some stroke of luck I had an egg that matured on it's own and was all ready to go. I took the trigger shot and although we did BD 4 times before, during, and after ovulation I wanted to increase my odds so we opted for the IUI right off the bat. In my opinion, if your insurance covers it (which ours does) I would go for it.....why not increase your chances anyway you can?? It was a quick, painless procedure and I was in and out of the doctor in no time!!
Needless to say I am 6 wks. pregnant. Don't know if it was all the BD'ing (with PreSeed) or the IUI but whichever it was it worked!!!
Lots of luck!!!!

I did two cycles of clomid with timed intercourse. I wasn't ready to do IUI right away. Those two cycles failed, and I am now on my fifth round of clomid (had two rounds that produced no follies), so I decided I was ready to get more aggressive.
If you have mature follies, your RE will test your LH level and will be able to see if you are surging. If you are not, they will give you the trigger.
To answer your question from above, I go to RSNY in Stony Brook.
