How does the stimulus payment handled when one parent only works
I’ll admit I am just being nosey and interested how it works.
If you are married and one of you only work when it comes to stimulus check are considered a married couple and that’s the cap they look at. I assume yes but wanted to double check. Cause I assume the person who doesn’t work really doesn’t have to file taxes cause they have no income.

If you file your taxes jointly then you are capped according to the salary cap for a married couple. They are still working out the details so who knows how it will all end up playing out.

Ok thanks. That’s what i figured.
Though I thought the other spouse can claim the non working spouse has a dependent (which may not be true but I thought someone told me that) which made me wonder if they are still counted a double income

You can't claim your spouse as your dependent if they don't work. Most people who have one working spouse do file jointly as it generally lowers your tax liability.

This. I don't work but we file jointly every year because it does save us money as the above stated.
