How early can you tell if DC has an allergy?
Can they test under a year? I am not talking about food, but environment and pets. TIA!!!!

They claim you cannot tell before a year, but I don't necessarily think that's true.

Re: How early can you tell if DC has an allergy?
Kelly, I just had this conversation with the dr yesterday. To answer your qustion, no, they won't test. I already asked.
She said to me that kids don't develop true allergies before the age of 4. That their immune systems are not fully developed yet, and they are still adjusting to the enviorment/ouside elements.
I find this hard to belive. I was in the offce yesterday because Ethan suddently developed a weird rash and she said that it was excema...isn't that a skin ALLERGY. And he's also been sneezing alot, rubbing his nose, and his right eye will tear from time to tim. I have hay fever and so does my husband, so to tell me that my son doesn't have allergies, well, I think it's a crock.

Re: How early can you tell if DC has an allergy?
Well, Maddie is living proof that you CAN have environmental allergies before a year. She has a confirmed cat allergy as well as what looks to be some sort of an outdoor allergy. She's getting Nasonex once a day as well as Benedryl when it gets really bad. She was diagnosed just after her 9 month appontment.
For those whos Dr.s refuse to test, apparently this is common with PEDS. I was told by other mothers in my area to go straight to an allergist- don't even bother with the PED. Thankfully, my PED is very proactive and sent us to an allergist when it came up that Maddie might have a milk allergy.
