How early did you have non family company over?

REALLY stupid situation...

this weekend is a Wrestling Pay per View which DH and I get normally and someitmes have some of his friends over (2 or 3).

My parents will also be down this weekend Chat Icon

We have 2 tvs with 2 DTV units, so watching it separate from the guys is not the issue.....

Is it too much to have them over to watch it with a newborn and family here? I'm so up in the air and don't know what to tell DH to tell his friends

Re: How early did you have non family company over?

We had a whole bunch of friends visit the weekend after we gave birth (7 days later) and a whole bunch of friends visited us while we were still in the hospital. As long as they don't handle her, or wash their hands thoroughly, it should be ok

I would just opt not to have any one over...you should tell them that its in the air and you have to play it by ear to see how you feel.

In addition to my parents and my inlaws, I had my friend and her husband stop by (since they happened to be in from NJ that day) on the day I came back from the hospital. It was fine, but I was hoping they'd all leave sooner than they did. You might find yourself too tired and overwhelmed to entertain visitors.

You may not feel like having company that soon. Your parents is a different story. I know Raw's New Year's Revolution is a BIG thing (we will be watching it too) but you many not want that many people in the house with a baby that is only a few days old...

I agree on the having too many people in the house, but I can isolate myself upstairs while the guys watch it on the big screen down stairs. They aren't loud or anything....and they'd be out the minute it's over.

Otherwise we'll TiVo it and watch after my parents leave (I CAN'T miss it)

I was thinking about germs in the house, not the noise. Hayley can sleep through anything...I took her to her first Rangers game (we went to Pittsburgh to see my Father and we took her with us to the game) and she slept thru all the cheering the Penguins fans were doing.

the first week. I enjoyed having people over I did not want anyone to leave. Maybe because we did not know what to do with the baby but stare at him. All he did was sleep and we would all just look at him.

I wouldn't have so much company over a few days after giving birth. First, if you have a c-section within the next couple of days, you probably won't even be home from the hospital yet. And that first day home you are in quite a bit of pain. You are right about one thing - you won't be getting out of bed much at all with a c/s.

Maybe it's just me but those first few days are such an adjustment period, I felt like I was walking around in a fog those first few days...company hanging out to watch a game was the last thing I would have wanted.

Plus...I wouldn't even want to take the chance of getting the baby sick SO soon by bringing people into the house who are going to touch the remote control, glasses, furniture, bathroom doorknob, etc you will touch and then touch your baby. All it takes is for one of them to be sick. Unless you plan on having your parents sanitize everything after they leave also, why would you take the chance?

That's just me though. Our first visitors were at 3 weeks. Well - visitors that were allowed to touch the baby. We had company DAY ONE and TWO of getting home (they didn't even CALL!) but they were not allowed to touch the baby.

My parent had a coming home party when i had Kaylee because of all the complictations she had, they wanted to lighten our mood. We saw everyone once she was out of the hospital. 8 days old she saw everyone.

I wouldn't want a group of people at my house that soon after I got home and definitely not men watching sports. I would be totally paranoid about germs and I know the noise would have aggrevated the crap out of me.

We had DH's parents here and that was plenty. I also wanted that time for DH and I to bond with our daughter and do things like diaper changes and such together so that we would learn together.

I wouldn't make any definite plans until you see how your delivery goes and how you feel when you get home.

Re: How early did you have non family company over?

I'm nuts about germs, so I didnt have anyone over except my mom and sister and DH's parents in the begining. I think it was like over a month before I let my girlfriends stop by and see her and any other family that wanted to also. I would't have any party right now with all the colds and flu going around, you dont want your newborn to get sick Chat Icon JMO I know I would feel so guilty!

There were about 20 people (family/close friends) waiting for Aidan and I when we got home.
We came home on the day of our towns Memorial Day parade, which has been an annual party since we moved here. I just couldn't break tradition. Honestly, we never left the living room aside from taking a nap in the bedroom at one point, everyone took care of themselves (and me!) including food, and cleaned the whole house before they left. This of course is not the norm... but it worked out fine for my family Chat Icon

I just read this. You'll be surprised how many TV shows you start to miss. I used to have a line up for every night now I'm down to my must see list being ER.

I had people at my house before I even got home! lol Mainly I held my babies and I would put them down in their nursery when I had to or I'd go in there if I wanted to get away from everyone. But we had antibacterial lotion all over the place and my husband would bark at everyone to wash their hands and asked people who'd call wanting to come over whether or not they were sick, and if they were, he'd ask them to please not come over.

Re: How early did you have non family company over?

I didn't want all of those people in my house when I got home with Molly. For one, my baby could get VERY sick from even a cold...exposing her to soo many people like that was not a good idea IMO. I was also recoverying for major surgery, tired, pumping my breasts every 2 hours. I would never entertain people during all of that, nor did I want overnight guests.
My mom and parents came over but for an hour here and there. My MIL did not come for 4 weeks because she wanted to stay in our home and I refused to have people sleeping here when I felt the way I did, and I didn't want to worry about making dinner, getting the guest room in order etc...So she had to wait.

If I were you...and again this is totally up to you, I would not have my husband's friend watching a sporting event in my home that soon. There is just no plus side to it IMO.

I wouldn't plan on it. You may not even be home. depending how long you are in labor say you go in today and don't give birth for 24 hours you wouldn't go home till at least Sat.

I would Tivo is and watch it when you and DH have some time to sit and relax (in say about 5 or 6 years! Chat Icon )
