How far back on Resume?
Anyone in HR/Hiring or anyone knows? I have back to my 1st job at 17years old on my resume. It is condensed so its only 2 pages full but I was wondering if its all necessary.
just a note: I stayed home with my kids from 2000 to 2010 but did childcare in my home so that is in there. oh and im 47 so .. um.. yea
What do you think?
Thanks.

How far back on Resume?
At my job, resumes should only be 1 full page. 2 is too many. I would just start with any jobs you had that may be relevant to the job you are applying for.

date wise dont go back more than 10-15 yr, one your aging yourself, and two companies dont care what you did that long ago, the world has changed they want to know what you bring to the table now.
for each job you had only have 3-4 bullets about what you did. try to keep it no more then 1-2 pages.

How far back on Resume?
I have all of my jobs since college on my resume - especially since I worked for the same company for almost 20 years - and in the same position for 12 years.
It should be no more than 2 pages long and you should adjust it for each job you apply to.
I have 3-4 bullet points for my older jobs but more for the recent ones.

Re: How far back on Resume?
Your resume should be no more than 2 pages, but if you have 10 years of in-home childcare in there, and it's not directly related to what you're applying for now, I think you can condense it.
The most important things to show is that you have experience in what you're applying to do; you've had meaningful experiences when in between those jobs (aka the childcare); and that you've grown or shown commitment.
Jobs that are older should have fewer bullets/details. If you went to college, then start your resume there. It's likely you don't need to go back to when you were 17.
If you have recent experience closely related to what you're applying for, then those should be the meatiest sections. If your experience is all over the place, then you might consider listing experience based on type of roles, rather than a strict timeline.

Re: How far back on Resume?
Agree, keep to 1 page. Make your daycare job suns entrepreneurial. Basically running your own business which is good.
I have my first job out of college (18yrs ago) because it’s was the longest running job I had and consulting experience is a lot of requirements or plus for jobs I apply to. But my resume is only one page and o majorly condense my teaching job.

How far back on Resume?
anything longer than 1 page is too long. I have a general resume with everything on it that is over 2 pages, but I tweak it down based on the job I'm applying for. For example, if I was applying for a teaching job, I'm not going to keep my lifeguarding and front desk jobs on there, just anything related to teaching would be there.

Re: How far back on Resume?
i just had my resume done by a company (my last job offered it when they let me go) they only took my time there. it was the only job i had since i left college. i did not put me working at waldbaums which i was there for over 7 years on it.

Re: How far back on Resume?
I am not actively looking but when I sent my resume out maybe a year or two ago, I only included my current and last two jobs so that it all fit one page. I also tailored the resume to fit the position I was applying for.

I think it depends on the industry. 2 pages is standard for me.
I would not mention the childcare unless you are applying for a job where you will work with children. As someone who used to do hiring, I wouldn’t make any differentiation between a gap and in home childcare. Again, unless you will be working with children.
