Re: How hard was taking away the pacifer?
We weened but we felt as if Kiera was ready for it. We realized that we were using it for us more than her. We started taking it away from her during the day and then eventually took it away at night. She did not even seem to care and I would say it only took a couple of days. The one tip I will give you is that when you start and once she is ready hide all of the pacifer's so that she doesn't see them. You don't want her seeing them and going back for it once you get her off.

Re: How hard was taking away the pacifer?
we weaned at 9 months old..DD only used it for naps/bedtime.
We did it cold turkey, they are resilient at that age, so we had 1-2 tough days-fussing to go to sleep, cranky but nothing unbearable- but after that she never even remembered it was gone.
The key for us was to put every single paci away, and out of sight even for us, we were more worried one of us would give in.

We went cold turkey at 6-7 months. They never missed it.

Just make it disappear and make sure that there aren't ANYWHERE laying around. She'll look for it but make pretend you don't know what she's referring to. Pretty soon, she'll forget about it all together.

I wish I knew! DS is 2 this month and still has it. I would have gotten rid of it, but since DD still has one, he will only steal hers. It doesn't bother me, since he only uses it to sleep. It NEVER leaves the house.

Re: How hard was taking away the pacifer?
It was actually super easy! I thought it would be a nightmare. We prepped her for a few weeks by telling her that big girls don't need binkies, and one day we finally took it away and told her she was a big girl, and we never heard of it again!

Re: How hard was taking away the pacifer?
My DD LOVES her binky! We are going to have one he!! of a time breaking her of that habit. She uses it for all sleep and then forget it if we leave one laying around. She wants it all day long. She goes to the cabinet where we keep them and puts her arms up and cries for them. We try to sway her from them until she gets cranky for a nap or night sleep but it's hard. I am afraid of what will happen when we say enough is enough . She's 15 months now.

I did it at about 12 months, cold turkey...she was fine! I didn't want to get to the point where she could ask for it.

Re: How hard was taking away the pacifer?
Take it away now.
I kept saying "I should take it away" and everyone told me since he only uses it for naps and bed, he's fine. Well, I should have never listened because now he looks for it and can call it and hides them all over. So it is much harder now. I should have stopped it when I wanted to instead of listening to everyone else.
I would start by just not offering it. See how that goes. If she is really cranking for it then give it to her, but take it back and say "ok, enough." Obviously I've never done it, so that sounds good, but whether it works is another story.
Good luck!

Re: How hard was taking away the pacifer?
We did it at 18 months. It was about a month of not sleeping well and some biting but she did it. We are now 23 moths and binkie and bottle free

Re: How hard was taking away the pacifer?
the pacifier was much easier than the bottle. 2 nights of crying and that was it. we did it cold turkey and made her throw the pacifiers out at 18 months good luck.
