how honest are you to friends?

I have one friend who can not get over some guy who broke up with her (they dated for one month) and I have another friend who is in a 4 yr relationship that is GOING NO WHERE..AND HE TREATS HER HORRIBLY!!!

so when they call to whine or complain..even if its the 10th time i heard it i still try to remain objective, and helpful, and concerned..my bf thinks that its ridiculous and i need to set them straight

friend #1--get the f*ck over it
friend #2-- ur in a verbally abusive relationing why the f*ck r u with him???

I mean I saw these things--but sugarcoated cause as a friend its my duty to listen (time and time again) but... I mean how HONEST should i really be??

Re: how honest are you to friends?

It depends on who I'm dealing w/. I feel like I can be more honest with some people and not so honest w/ others.

It depends on the situation. When my best friend married someone I didn't like, I didn't say anything. Now that she's divorced & dating, I'm more honest with her. She sometimes hands over power of attorney for her relationships to me.

I'm extremely honest with my friends - but only when they ask me my opinion. I've learned not to say my opinion about their private lives unless I'm asked.

In most cases, I am honest. I'd probably tell GF#1 to try and move past it, and ask #2 why she is staying with someone who doesn't deserve her. Same message as what your BF is saying, but a better way of saying it, I think.

Sorry Michelle, I didn't read your entire post.
This is the two things I've told my friend who recently went through tough times with a jerk (being nice) she dated:
1. She kept complaining that she was getting older and no proposal and she didn't know if it was going anywhere - so after the second breakup I told her she just wasted another 6 months of her life and had she moved on the first time, she wouldn't have wasted those months
2. Finally after months of advice I gave up and told her we obviously had different thoughts on guys and what a "good" relationship should be like so maybe I wasn't the best person to give her advice anymore.
(Not b/c of our talk, but they have been broken up for like 6 months now - yeah! Chat Icon)

Re: how honest are you to friends?

I have different levels of honesty depending on each friend....some of my friends...well one in particular...is just not as strong as I wish she was...and I have to kinda sugar coat things for her....

I never lie...but I'll soften the truth.....especially about guy stuff....I always want all my friends to be comfortable coming to me with problems...

but if it's a bad haircut or jeans that make them look fat, or a mustache that needs to be waxed--I tell my friends straight out! And I expect them to look out for me that way too......
