How is the flu mist? Is it better than a shot for a 2yo?

Is the mist like squirting water up your nose or actually easy breezy?

Has anyone given the flu mist to their toddler?

The mist is def. more effective. I had it and my 3 yo had it this year. The reason why it is more effective is that most of the flu virus is inhaled, so the flu mist adds an extra level of protection.

Vaccine and mist are both great, but I would say go mist. My son was a little freaked out prior but it took a sec and he was fine...no complaint or tears.

I could be wrong but I believe I refused the mist last year bc it had traces of the live virus and the shot didn't. As for which one is more effective I'm not sure

I've been told the same thing. Also, that there's a minimum age to be able to get the mist.

We did the shot for 2 reasons

1) live virus in the mist.
2) DS hates drops in his nose, the shot is quicker for us.

I give the shot. One time they ran out of the shot for DD#1 and she got the mist - never again she completely freaked out and it was horrible. She doesn't like shots but I think the other was miserable. Plus I like that the shot is dead - the mist tends to cause more side effects.

This is why we went with the shot. I didn't want my baby to get sick from her.

I have 5 or 6 friends who have used the mist and each one says their kid got very sick.
And they all went back to the shot the following year.

I will stick with the shot

DD is 2.5 and the ped recommended we do the mist this year. It was super easy and she had no reaction to it at all. Much easier than the shot!

Our ped recommended the mist for our 3 year old this year. He said he takes it as well as his own kids over the shot. There is a live WEAKENED virus and he said the only possible side affect was a little congestion (which we did notice). He said that because it is going into the nose which is where most people pick up the virus anyway, its much more effective than the shot...

My DS has only had the mist and never any issues. He never had as much as a sniffle. My nieces and nephews always end up sick after the flu shot.

It's a spray and they told DS to smell the tissue so it would drip out and it was done in 2 seconds.
