Re: How Long
I guess since birth really, kind of "inherited" the family teams.
Tho I didn't really get into sports until I was a pre-teen.
But you already know all this!!

Have you all been following your respective favorite teams? Mets since 1969 Jets since 1969 Giants since 1969 Just curious.
I was just a fetus in 1969.
Yanks since I could say it. Mom and Dad were raised in the Bx and Mom could see YS from her window.

Re: How Long
I was a Yankee fan up until 1998 when I met DH and he and his fam were hard-core Mets fans. I went to a billion Mets games and never 1 Yankee one, so I made the gradual change.
p.s. Thinking back, I seemed to have only been a Yanks fan to impress some guy in High School

Re: How Long
I was born and raised a Mets fan since 1979, but I first remember being really aware of them when I was 5 or 6 years old.

Re: How Long
METS: I was Born in '75 and my father has been watching ever since.
Islanders: 1991: Our HS band was asked to perform at a game and Ive been hooked ever since. I'll be honest, since the strike, Im not that into it anymore, but, I'll watch a game here and there. My brother is a die hard Islander fan. We used to go early, meet the players, get autographs, etc. That was A LOT of fun.

Re: How Long
Mets - since about 1971 when I started sitting and watching the games with my grandmother @ 6 years old. The best experience was taking her to a game at Shea in 1987
Islanders - I grew up in Uniondale - need I say more
Packers - Since I was 16 and became aware of football...love the fact that the city owns the team and Brett!

Born and raised Mets fan - '77!
I dont really care for any other sports and either does my DH thank GOD but I suppose I would root for the Jets and the Islanders because my dad does.

Re: How Long
First Yankee game was in 1988 at the age of 5. I've been a fan ever since!
As for other sports, I'm not really as big a fan for the others...
But I've been watching the Redskins since I was an infant.
And I tend to 'side' with the Knicks and the Islanders... but I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of either.

Re: How Long
I was a Mets fan when I started liking sports, around 7 years old. Dad's company got tickets so we went a lot. Then I really started getting into baseball it was around 1977 and I defected to become a Yankees fan.
When I went to school in Chicago I fell in love with the Cubbies.
I would say around 1977 I was a Yankee fan and later in life also became a Cubs fan.
I would love to see the Yanks v Cubs in the WS.

Re: How Long
My parents are immigrants from Ireland so they were never into American sports. I never had the experience of going to the ballpark with Dad. We were signed up for soccer and Irish dancing... no baseball and American football which my dad still says, even though he's been here over 30 years is the STUPIDEST sport ever invented. I grew up going to the pubs with my Dad to try to catch the Gaelic games in the few places back in the day that carried the games on satellite. My uncle in Ireland was a HUGE gaelic altheltic asscoiation follower and made me a Gaelic football fan..UP DONEGAL! (hence my username!)
American sports I got into as a kid on my own... so I became a Mets fan in 1986 and never looked back. They are my team....
DH lives and breathes Islanders so I LOVE them now... good thing I always appreciated the sport, now I follow along too.... Proud Islander fan since 2005
