How long after a Miscarraige, or giving birth....

Hello girls, I know most of you know of my situation from the pregnancy board. My husband and I want to try to have a baby right away, how long after you miscarried, or gave birth (either prematurely-or full term) were you allowed to start trying again?

I should add, there were no complications to me from the birth of our son, and I was told 3 months would be good to wait, 6 months would be preferred. There is no way I can wait 6 months, and 3 months is going to tear my heart out even more than it is.

Anyone?

Hi,

Again, I am sorry for your loss. I miscarried back in June and was asked to wait for two cycles to complete before trying again. We only waited for one cycle to complete, but unfortunately, I am not pregnant yet. I think everyone is different, but I truly believe that there is no higher risk of another bad pregnancy if you try earlier. I know you were through a lot, but I would think that if your body feels good and you are healthy, you should not have to wait 6 months - of course, I'm not a doctor.

I wish you all the best, you deserve it.

Re: How long after a Miscarraige, or giving birth....

First of all, I am so unbelievably sorry for your loss - I simply cannot imagine the devastation and my heart goes out to you.

As for when you can try again - before I conceived my daughter, I had a miscarriage, and against my doctor's advice, I conceived again a week later (by accident). I had absolutely no complications as a result, BUT, with that said, I miscarried only at 6.5 weeks.

I think it's different when you're further along - I would suspect that your body does need some time to recover and to shed the uterus lining and start building it again, but I'm not a doctor, so I don't know.

I know, on some level, how you feel - when I had my m/c, I felt a sudden urgency to try again - it was, in a strange way, my way to get through the miscarriage. If you really feel you are mentally ready, I would get a second opinion to determine exactly how long you have to wait, for physical reasons.

I agree w/ Bxgell on the second opinion...as I said, everyone is different, but 6 months sounds like a long time...you might need longer than someone who m/c earlier in pregnancy, but it might not hurt to get other professional opinions... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree, get another professional opinion. However, your body has gone through a lot, and needs to recuperate. I was 8 weeks and 2 days last week when I m/c and honestly I cannot wait until I start again. I was told to wait at least two cycles. I am going to try as soon as I can. I feel like I need to also.

Hi,
First I am sorry for your loss. I miscarried in June at 8 weeks and was told to wait two cycles. From my research, waiting 2-3 cycles seems to be the norm.

I wish you nothing but the best. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you girls, we are ok with waiting the 3 months as they said, but it will be hard, really hard.

I go to the doctor on dec 1st, so we will ask probably a million questions when we go.

I guess I am just being a little impatient.

I'm so sorry about your situation, you are one of the strongest people I have ever encountered.
I suffered a miscarriage last week, I was actually further along than I thought, and I was told to wait at least two cycles.

Being that you werefurther along in your pregnancy I would give your body 3 months to rest and let your hormone levels regulate before trying again! I wish you the best of luck and hopefully we will find ourselves getting pregnant together!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think its wonderful that you want to start right away, i was the same way, i had an ectopic...they recomended 3 cycles after my surgery, luckily i got AF a week after so I counted that as one, so really 2 months later I was preggo...Good luck

Re: How long after a Miscarraige, or giving birth....

Thank you girls....trust me, it is so hard to be strong, I find myself in tears every time I see a pregnancy test commercial, or diaper commercial on tv.

I feel like I got 1/2 way there to having a baby, and now have to start over again and go through all the hard things like morning sickness. Waiting 2 or 3 months is even harder because I feel like time is being wasted.

But thank you, I am hoping the doctor will tell me 2 months will be ok....as it is, we have to wait 6 weeks to do ANYTHING....grrr

Re: How long after a Miscarraige, or giving birth....

I believe in your situation they are probably advising that for mental health rather than any physical reason...If you and your DH feel you are ready, I would wait one cycle(1 period ) and then try. This will ensure yoru lining is normal for implantation and placental attachment. I am so sorry for your loss. I wish you best of luck.

Unsolicited advice to follow: You are already committed to having to wait the six weeks. I believe that you are in the second week or somewhere around there, right? For now, get through the six weeks and then determine whether you want to wait another few weeks to the 3 month mark. If you decide now, you will probably keep re-evaluating your decision until then anyway. You're still in my thoughts and I hope you don't mind that I inserted my opinion here.

Re: How long after a Miscarraige, or giving birth....

I think the reason they advised waiting anywhere from 3-6 months was because you did give birth. You need to give your body and hormones a chance to recover and it may take a month or 2 to get regular again. I have thought about you and your husband a lot and I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I would make a list and ask lots and lots of questions, but I believe the longer wait is because you did go through so much with your bodyChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

After a D&C or natural birth it is 3 mths. I had a D&C and had to actually weight 6mths due to a pregnancy illness I have. After giving birth I was told to wait 3 cycles as well.

Soooo sorry for your loss ~ you and your hubby have been in my thoughts ~ I have no advice ~ my sister in law had a M/C I believe she was in her 2nd trimester and she had twins... she went through something similar to you ~ she opted to not do the d&c She was suppose to wait 2 cycles but my brother was impatient she was pregnant shortly after that and gave birth to my god daughter ~ I would listen to the doctor ~ your body has gone through a lot ~ I know it is hard but hang in there.
