I was told 6 weeks as well by ob/gyn. You can do a sits bath-you know, the one you can sit in on the toilet (spelling?) but that's about all.

I was never told any restrictions and would took them days after delivering without any issue.

I was told the sitz bathes would help soothe....a few inches of warm water in the tub for few minutes at a time.
I had a shower head that came down that helped ALOT right after giving birth in my shower stall
