A "couple of weeks"? I don't think I had an overnight guest within 3 months of my boys' birth (not to say I wouldn't have appreciated if SOMEONE offered ), but I definitely wouldn't have wanted anyone here for a couple of weeks.

The only over night guests I would have are my parents or good friends that live out of town.

a couple of weeks!
Ummm, NEVER!
That is just too long, can't they stay for like a night, then go to a hotel?

Re: how long after the birth did you accept overnight visitors?
MIL was with us the first weekend and was awesome, did laundry/cooked/went food shopping. then I had a close friend and her hubby stay over 1 night at 2 months and was a little stressed but it worked out OK. I would not have been able to have ANYONE stay a couple weeks unless they were 100% going to help me out and it was close family.

Re: how long after the birth did you accept overnight visitors?
are they coming to help you out w/the baby??? I would say this would be the time to not feel bad any more (if at one time you did) to say "sorry-its just going to be too much!!!" Just being home with the new baby and having to deal with recovery is an adjustment enough, you dont need company on TOP of that!

My MIL stayed with us for a week after DS was born and she was great too.

I was thinking the same thing. It would stress me out having people over for that long. Just thinking of all of the cooking, cleaning and entertaining is stressing me out just thinking about it.

3 weeks...that was my rule and it was respected although I don't think my in-law family understand it.

My MIL stayed with us when we came home from the hospital. When my SIL came to visit, she got a hotel. When SIL left, she came back to stay with us.
