how long before fertility testing?
After a lot of dissatisfaction with my OB/GYN, I found another one who I am much happier with. SHe answers all of my questions and she's very thorough, unlike my previous gyno who was flippant and rude.
I asked my NEW gyno when I can start fertility testing. I'm 34, and she still told me that until we've been trying for a solid year, they won't even entertain testing for ovarian function, etc. She said that I am visibly healthy and need to relax, get a massage, drink a glass of wine and keep trying for one year before battering myself with tests...... is this normal?

Re: how long before fertility testing?
I think it is really up to you. If you have normal cycles, and have been charting, using ovulation kits, etc. I would probably want to start some testing after 6 months. If you have any other issues though, like irregular cycles, I would get tested right away. If your insurance doesn't need a referral then you can see an RE whenever you want.

You might want to consider having your DH do a SA. It's an easy test and if everything is normal for you, (regular periods and you know you are ovulating every month) than it's worth checking him. However if you feel like there is something wrong I wouldn't wait. I'd make an appointment with an RE. GL

This kinda pizzes me off. What does being visibly healthy have to do with your fertility If you feel there is something going on there just may be. If your Dr won't give you the tests you want, find a new one and lie!
I love my gyn. One day I went in and had an exam and he noticed I had had my last pap 1 yr ago. Insurance companies have been saying if you have always had normal paps you can go 1X every 3 yrs so I said that to my Dr. He said of course. They don't care if you get cancer. I do! the day I let insurance companies dictate my patients care is the day I will quit being a dr.
Different subject but similar type of thing. You need a Dr that will advocate for YOU

My Doc said one full year when I 1st started. I was only 27 at the time so I do not know if age would be a factor in that.
