How long can you let a newborn cry?

I posted another thread about my 3 week old son not wanting me to put him down. The second I put him in his crib he is hysterical. Is it ok to let him cry a little? TIA!

Have you tried the Soothing Motions Glider?

I personally wouldn't let them cry for more than a few mins (if you were getting a bottle ready or something) at that age! Chat Icon

I also agree at that age I would not let them cry for more than just a couple of minutes.

i wouldn't let a newborn cry for long...try swings or bouncers or the bjorn/sling....they can really be a saving grace! you won't be spoiling a baby that age by holding them all the time. they need it! they are used to always being held and being in motion. in Happiest Baby on the Block it said something like, a baby in utero was held 24 hours a day and if your baby is held for 12 hours once born it is a in instant 50% reduction...big change!

At such a young age, I wouldn't let them cry for more than two or three minutes. They really need you at that age. They have just left the warmth and safety of your womb and the world is a big bad WIDE OPEN place, they need the security of being closed in!
