How long did it take to housebreak your puppy?
This is Sophie... We love her to death, but I'm not having so much fun with the housebreaking part.... We got her about a month ago and she's about 4 1/2 months old now. She's in the crate at night and doesn't have accidents, and sometimes during the day she makes it outside if I walk her and I feel like I'm constantly walking her, but she doesn't always make it outside and she doesn't try to "tell" me she has to go, I have been trying to train her to use Poochie Bells... Please tell me eventually it's going to click for her

I don't fully remember, I'd say it took a solid 3-4 months to train ollie, maybe a little more. She was mostly trained and then would have a few accidents here and there. Now we've had her over a year and accidents are extremely rare. Hang in there, it'll get easier.

Re: How long did it take to housebreak your puppy?
I got my male dog when he was 10 weeks old.I had him trained (worked very hard at it) by 3-4 mths.
My female dog had bladder control issues, weak bladder. It took her almost ONE year to become fully trained. I think until her bladder muscles got stronger. I was taking her out like 10 times a day for a few mths. It was hard work but well worth it.
My dogs NEVER urinate or defecate in the house, evne if they get sick at night and have to go out, they cry until we wake up to take them out.
Keep at it, it will eventually work if you are consistent.

You just got her a mth ago. She needs time to adjust in your home for sure. Plus who knows how she was trained whereever she was before you had her. So she def needs extra time to get the hang of it. ANd sometimes females can have bladder control issues due to a short urethra. So give it a few mths for sure.

Re: How long did it take to housebreak your puppy?
You have to take her out every 2-3 hours for the 1st mnth.. You are right on with the crate.. when she goes you should be going crazy with praises.. Even a low fat treat.. Maybe a carrot or a piece of a milk bone.. If she doesnt go she gets nothing.. Be consistant if you are and you follow this your dog will not go in the house .. I think grass helps too.. My dog will only go on grass.. This is a great age to train. when they are younger its so much harder.. You can do this 1 month and your problems will be over .. She will be sitting at the door stairing at it or ringing the bell for you if you ring it every time she out but you shoud make her ring it everytime you leave the house with her.. Put her nose om it or her paw.. Cockerspaniels or King charles cavaliers are sooooooo smart!!! And BTW: she is so Gorgeous and so is your daughter!!!! Good luck fm me anytime!!

maybe hershey is some kind of super dog... but we had him fully trained in a month - no joke!
we got him somewhere between 12 and 16 weeks.... the shelter told is he was 12 weeks, but the vet said he was a little older.... the vet thinks he was born in early december

.
When we got Olli he was 2 months old. Within a week, he was going out and doing his business, but then suddenly two weeks later he decided he didn't want to go out anymore. It took another month and a half of consistently going out with him and praising to get him to finally get the idea again.
That being said, he has the weakest bladder ever. If he gets excited, a little pee will sometimes tinkle out () and he needs to go out about every hour or two. I am hoping like Goobster said that once he gets a little older, his bladder muscles will get stronger!
So definitely keep with it! I remember saying to DH at one point that Olli would never get it, and then suddenly a little light clicked in his head!
