How long do you continue with Potty Prizes??

I think I have a potty trained child on my hands !! Chat Icon
Ryan hasn't worn a diaper (aside from at bedtime) in 2 wks. He has an accident here and there but now it's most a dribble and then he realizes it and runs to the bathroom. He can go for stretches like our car ride to and from PA last weekend and stay dry and he stays dry at nap time.

He is doing awesome! But poo still requires more convincing. It makes him nervous. In the last two wks he seems to go every other day b/c he's avoiding going Chat Icon I have gotten him to go in the potty 3 times and the days DH had him - he had poo accidents (well, it was no accident - he went in his underpants)

I have stopped with prizes for peeing b/c it doesn't seem necessary but the poo - I've been trying to up the ante each time. Last night I got him to go on the potty and he got a big prize (big in my eyes $10 more Chat Icon - a lot more $$ than M&Ms). I'm gonna end up spending more on prizes than diapers Chat Icon So far I'm out over $50

So, how long did you continue with prizes? He doesn't expect anything for peeing, but pooing he seemed more eager to give a few pushes when I told him there would be a good reward. Am I creating a bad habit or can I continue like this for a couple more weeks until he gets the hang of regularly pooing on the potty??

We kept up prizes for poop until they were pretty consistant with it, but we had a bag of stuff from Dollar tree and Target $1 area. Then once they were good the prize bag went away and they got to pick one big prize. DS wanted a Spiderman costume.

I had a ton of that stuff that I used the first weekend for pee, and a guitar he earned after we endured the first 4 days.
Now the dollar store junk seems anti-climatic for poop since he's gotten his share of coloring books, etc. already.

I was getting the same way!

I never gave her toy prizes for pee but I gave her "gummies" this was either gummy bears or jelly beans (like 4)

But for poop..what worked real well - was when I felt she was being more successful than having accidents ...I began to take away one of her toys away when she had a poop accident in her underwear....then she didnt get it back until she pooped successfully again on the potty! This took about a week and then it was eventually weaned out bec no new toys were being inroduced..just recyled "favorites" lol!

good luck!

We bought a giant bag of lollipops and kept them in a bowl on the kitchen table, so they were always there for motivation.

We just kept using them until we ran out. It was about a month.

This is what we are doing too. I also have a sticker chart. He gets one sticker for pee. Two stickers for poo. 1/2 a sticker for making it to the bathroom but missing a little and making a little. Once we fill up the chart he is getting a bigger prize. He asked for monster truck mater. For pee he gets stickers. I got some match box toys and he gets a matchbox or a page of stickers for poop. I have some other toys (alex shaving kit, fire truck, monster trucks, crayons, coloring books, reward stickers for poop) as incentives along the way. We have only been doing this for 3 days so I think I will be giving rewards for a while.

We did the stickers initially - one for pee, two for poop. My kitchen is decorated in charts LOL. He is so over the stickers, and receiving anything for pee aside from praise - but poop needs a extra push (no pun intended ;)

I am going to continue with small toys for poop now until he stops holding it for every other day and gets on a regular schedule I guess
