How long do you give a new job

before you decide that you truly don't like it vs. the new person jitters?

At least 3 months. I've read in a bunch of places that on average, it takes a person 3 months (if not slightly longer) to be comfortable and adjusted to their new surroundings.

That's certainly not to say though that there aren't lots of jobs out there that are in fact dysfunction junction!

Well I moved so that is why I needed a new job but I stayed in the exact same field doing the exact same thing (RN). I was trained one way and used to that way for a long time. When I started here I found they do things very differently and while I know part of the anxiety I feel is having to relearn everything as well as getting comfortable with my new coworkers, I also feel like I don't want to get comfortable doing things the way they do here because I don't necessarily agree with them on a personal and professional level. I've been here only 2 mths now so I'm trying to give it a little more time but the more I get "comfortable" with doing things I find the more "uncomfortable" I get with doing them. Does that make sense to anyone?

Makes perfect sense to me! I have been in similar situations, especially working in the healthcare field for for-profits.

honestly? i know within the first week if i like the job or not.

i lost my job in november, got a new one right away, started it and hated it.
i was there a week...

listen to your intuition - however fast its telling you is probably the right answer. mine told me once after the first day, once after a week and once after 9 months.

i also lost my job in november, started a new one last month & knew within the first week it wasnt for me - not only a crazy boss, but just the office atmosphere in general, i knew i didnt fit in.

unfortunately i'm stuck there, unless i can talk them into laying me off, i cant quit and be elligible to collect unemployment. i'm trying to go back to the organization i was temping with before i accepted this position.
