I believe it is 6 months after you are actually done BF. I would ask CheeChee, she is a mammo tech.

Good question, I forgot what the Dr. said. I can't remember if it was 3 or 6 months. I think it was 3, but I have to check. I have to have mine done and if it is six months, then I'm in trouble b/c I want to be pregnant again before that!

That's my exact dilemma. I'd like to wean very slowly (she's 21 months and nursing 3x a day). And i would like to start trying to get pregnant this summer. If I have to wait 3-6 months after I am done weaning that brings me to the end of the year.
But I was just reading on the LLL web site that you can have a mammo or breast MRI done while BFing but you need a radiologist who specializes in reading mammos of lactating breasts. There seems to be so many conflicting reports though.
Seles81....I will FM Chee Chee - thanks

My mother had bc at 31 so they follow me very closely. I also have a a fibroid that they watch as well. I see both a breast surgeon and go for annual mammo's, bi annual sonos and this year I started having MRI's.
I plan on breast feeding. Since I am pregnant I can't have the MRI or the Mammo but I did have a sono about 3 weeks ago - the radiologist and breast surgeon have agreed I should have an MRI about 2 months after I give birth and then a mammo and sono is the spring even if I am still breast feeding - I was advised it won't be as clear but that they don't want me to go without it.

Thanks for all the responses. I haven't heard back from my OB yet. I'll let you know what she says....since so many Dr.s seem to have a different take on it.

This is making me a bit nervous as I have a similar family history but I have not done anything other than a baseline mammo 7 years ago.
