How long do you think I should wait to order nursery furniture for #2??
I haven't done anything about DC's nursery b/c a) it is currently being built b) I planned on getting white for a girl, or matching pieces to Ryan's set for a boy (in case they ever have to bunk together if I have a third down the line) c) I was waiting to see what Ryan would do as far as a big boy bed
I have no desire to push a big boy bed and Ryan seems to love being in his crib - but, the last wk he is SUCH a monkey that I think it will be a matter of time before he figures out how to escape the crib. He's climbing chairs to get to the top of my kitchen table, flipping boxes over and carrying them to door knobs to set up a stepstool for himself and this morning was scaling the outside of the crib.
So, I planned on ordering the new baby's furniture when he or she arrives probably in a couple of wks. But now I wonder if Ryan will force me to take out of his crib sooner rather than later.
Give it a month or more? I don't want to waste $$ on another crib - but I don't want to push him out for no reason.

Re: How long do you think I should wait to order nursery furniture for #2??
I am in the same boat----at this point I am thinking I will just get an inexpensive IKEA crib for the baby and wait to order the dresser until the baby is born----DS has 2 dressers and I know I can make room for the babies stuff in one. Like you, if its a boy I want their stuff to match in case they share a room at some point, so I would buy another dresser like DSs. If its a girl, I will get white furniture, but we are team green. We were just at IKEA this weekend and I told DH I don't even want to buy the crib until after the baby is born, DS will be 2 when the baby comes and he may be climbing by then, we shall see.

Would putting the new baby in a pack and play or a bassinet for the first few weeks and then transitioning them to DSs crib be an option?

I would do this or push him out of the crib.
I am planning on transitioning E to a big bed in Late Jan/Feb or sooner if she figures how to get out.

I do plan to have the baby in a co-sleeper in my room for the first 2-3 months, but hoped to get the room squared away before I return to work in Feb/March (so I would need to order furniture by the end of the year probably)

Re: How long do you think I should wait to order nursery furniture for #2??
I think I would give it another month or so....I ordered furniture from BBB and although they said 14 weeks it was here in like 4! So you could still have plenty of time to get hte room set up before you return to work.
Also my DS is like yours in the climbing, he climbs on everything yet for some unknown reason he loves his crib and has yet to try to climb out (he is 22 months) So I keep anticipating needing to move him to a big boy bed but I dont what to do it too early when he seems so content (and contained!) in his crib!
