How long does it normally take to set up your classroom?

Heading in tomorrow to start the set up. I'm in a new school and grade (Kindergarten). I know there are materials that were put in my room, but I have no idea what they are (it was originally a 1st grade class).

Just wondering how much time / days it takes some of you on average. I have three little ones at home and am trying to plan child care for them. Do you think two days would be enough if I work from 8:00 to about 2pm???

Also do most of you start organizing things or start right away with the bulletin boards?

Thanks!

It really depends on the condition of your classroom. If all of your books are already in order, and theres not a lot of random "junk" you need to go through then 2 days are plenty. I clean up a bit and then start bulletin boards then go back to cleaning up and organizing.

I spend about 24 hours setting up each year....if it were a new classroom I would need much more time

Re: How long does it normally take to set up your classroom?

I think this year since i left most of my things up it should take me 2 days- maybe 4 hours in total- but i also have my husband coming in who also happens to be an elem teacher so it just makes it easier for me... then again though- we have double the rooms to set up1 Chat Icon

Usually one day. I will go in around 8 and am done by 2. I teach high school though so there is a lot less to set up than an elementary classroom.

I think I'm the wrong person to go by.. I have gone in for 5 days and spent about 7/8 hours each day... I was insane.

I usually go in for 4-5 days to unpack boxes, rearrange furniture and organize everything.

It really depends on whether I am changing bulletin board paper and borders and how much bs-ing I do!

I'm only banking on 2 days this week. The hardest part is arranging furniture and putting up posters. Trying to keep it simple!

Same here, the bs-ing does add time.

Re: How long does it normally take to set up your classroom?

I went in last week and in three hours had my bulletin boards up and my clothesline hung. I'll go in again this week for a few hours and straighten up a little more but I try to get the bulk of the "garbage" out of the room by the end of the school year to make it easy on myself when I go back.

Re: How long does it normally take to set up your classroom?

I teach first grade. I took one whole day to move my furniture and start hanging up posters. The second day I was in for 1/2 a day and hung up the rest and organized my library. I left up the paper and border on my bulletin boards so that save a lot of time.

I still have to put the childrens books in their desks, make labels, and make goodie bags, etc.

Re: How long does it normally take to set up your classroom?

I was there for about 2 hours today - cleaned a little, set up my library, emptied my closets and put up my smaller buklletin boards. I will be going back tomorrow to finish up - bulletin boards, organizing, setting up the desks, etc. I am planning on another 3-4 hours and I should be done

I went in one day for about 5.5 hours and I set up my room. I did make it easier for myself by setting up my bulletin boards in June and then covering them with plastic tablecloths from the dollar tree. this is my 3 year in this grade level and my 13th year of teaching. Each year I get it a little more organized in June so it doesn't hurt so much in the beginning of the school year to come in and set everything up!

i did this too, but unfortunately, the geniouses in my buidling ripped it down, threw out all my letters, and left all of my boxes on my front desks, and desks in the middle of my room... I was less than thrilled when i got there..

all in all, it took me about 3 hours to set my room back up though, but i am middle school.. all i had to do was reorganize and put up one bulletin board... not bad..

I always do my boards in June and cover them so it only takes me about 3 hours to clean and set up.

Thanks everyone....so far I'm on day three and still feel I have so much more to do. Going to take a breather tomorrow and be with my kiddos and go back in on Friday.

This is the same for me. Every year, I hope to be done in 2 days, and it always takes at least 4. But I switch things up every year.

Re: How long does it normally take to set up your classroom?

It is my fourth year in the same room/same grade so it took me less than 2 days. But I had my library/bulletin boards/labels/name plates/ etc done in June.

When I first came into the room I have no doubt it took me the entire week to organize it.

Re: How long does it normally take to set up your classroom?

It depends. Last year was my second year in that room and I'd left it well organized and had cut out my bull board paper, so it didn't take long.

This year- I still have no program, don't even know if I have a homeroom. If I have to move to another room it will take a long time. I have 20 crates of books and supplies. If I end up homeroom-less, I will have to hope that the person in my old room is nice and lets me store my stuff there because there is nowhere else!
