How long does your baby go between naps (around 6 months old)

Is it normal they start getting tired around 2 hrs after waking up?

When does the period between naps get longer?

Re: How long does your baby go between naps (around 6 months old)

DD is 7 months and going between 3 - 4 hours between naps but I believe that around 5-6 months it was around 2 hours, so it sounds normal to me :)

Yes, this was totally normal for us-----I would say around 10 months DS started having a longer stretch in the afternoon (like he would wake at 3 and stay up until 6pm) but it held true for a long time.

I think at that age, ds was maybe 2 hours max. He never could last long. Even at 1 years old, he can only really do 3 hours between naps and 4 hours from his last nap until bedtime.

It was around 2 - 2.5 hours.

That was actually the guide my ped gave me to get him on a nap routine.

wow...my Ava never took naps.

When she turned 4.5 months she started taking a 30-45 minute nap around 11am. Otherwise she sleeps from 9pm-7am and does not wake up.

Those with kids that nap - do they sleep all night????

Re: How long does your baby go between naps (around 6 months old)

Ryleigh always takes her first nap of the day within 2 hours of waking up, even if it's just for 20 minutes or so.

She tends to go more like 3-4 hours between naps, but that's because she's SO alert that she won't sleep until she literally passes out.

She doesn't get that from me...you don't have to tell me twice to take a nap Chat Icon

Ladies-- how long do your kids generally nap for if they are going 2 to 3 hours between naps?

Here's how today went:

J woke up for the day at 6am, M woke up around 6:30.

J went down for nap #1 at 8am, M at 8:30am.

J woke up from nap #1 at 11:15am, J at 11:30am.

Both went down for nap #2 at 1:15pm, and both woke up at 2pm.

M went down for nap #3 at 4:15pm and woke up at 5pm. J did not take a 3rd nap.

Both went down for the night at about 6:30.

I am still trying to figure out the nap schedule. I think today was a good example of what their internal sleep cycles are. Things have improved tremendously since I really started looking for sleepy cues and putting them down right away. They fall asleep within minutes, no fussing or crying, its amazing.

so they great a nice long nap in the morning... that's great.

do you have something in the crib that entertains them while they drift off?

Its takes up up to 30 mins to get Sasha to sleep for 30 mins. At night she falls asleep on her own fine-- during the day it's another story entirely. I am trying to watch for the sleep cues too-- I guess I am missing them. Chat Icon

Those 3 naps sound about right though according to Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child.

Yep. I have Healthy Sleep habits, Healthy Twins and it has helped me tremendously with both naps and night time sleep.
You really have to watch for those sleepy cues like a a hawk. Is she crying when you put her down and it takes 30 minutes, or is she happy and playful? If she is cryng, then you missed the "window." If she is happy then you put her down too early.

I look for things like rubbing their eyes, becoming less playful, not smiling, and whining.

I have the FP aquarium in the crib I always put on whenever they go down, day or night.

yes, DS has always been a very good napper, and he has been sleeping through the night since he was 8 weeks old. at 5 months he started sleeping from 7pm to 5am, and at 6 months he was sleeping until 7am. now, at 9 months, he almost always sleeps at least 12 hours a night plus 2 2-hour long naps.

I do-- but I try to do a little "soothing" per the book-- so, a little shushing and rocking-- then she starts dozing in my arms quickly. Putting her down and leaving her there is a different story entirely!
