How long is ur commute? For the right job what is the longest you would travel?

I am just curious if anyone would travel an about an hour and 30 minutes for an awesome job...or would the commute hold them back?

Yep it is public transportation. I figure I can read, listen to music, eventuially get some device so I can email as well..

I don't mind teh commute... if it is the perfect job, I say GO FOR IT!

I deal with an annoying commute for about that long because I have a good job with an awesome boss.

Right now it's 1:15.

Maybe I would take a job if it was the BEST job ever with a 1:30 commute. And that's a big maybe.

I would commute at least an hour for a good job and the right money. But my mommy instincts are also kicking in so perks like working from home regularly have to be thrown in. Right now my main office is on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook and I commute from Amity Harbor. It takes about 40 minutes in the morning, and about 1 hour at night by car. I am asking to work from home though at least one day a week after is born and we'll see how that goes. We also have an office in Babylon which is 10 minutes from my house so I want to see if we can work something out with that location.......

my commute is 1 hour to 1 hour 15 depending on the train i take so another 15 minutes wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me. especially not if i loved the job. i once worked with soemone who commuted into NYC from PA!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally couldn't stand it! I did it for 4 months before I could not take it anymore! I hated the traffic and tolls.
But I guess it also depends on which way you are going also. I also on the other hand have absolutly no patience!
BUT my friends dad has done the same commute for over 20 years and dont mind it at all!

I did it for over a year and hated the commute so much I quit. It was life-sucking...Add another 3 hours (or more) onto an already long work day and I was miserable all the time...Fighting with DH, being nasty to everyone, falling asleep constantly...I didn't have time to do anything else during the week--go to the gym, shop, cook, etc. But I was using public transportation and had a long work day--with public transportation I had to leave work 2 hours before I arrived home to allow time to catch a subway and then get to the train in time. If I missed the train I was stuck an additional hour and a half. I would never do it again. DH and I decided that we will only live where we have 1/2 hour or less commutes. It's worth us to have a smaller house or make less and maintain our quality of life.

I am on the express bus for 1 hour at least

I am the first stop in the morning and the last stop at night

it doesn't bother me

I would go for it

It used to suck sometimes when we lived in Long Beach----that train was notorious for breaking down due to bad weather.........

right now-door to door about 45 min-hour

My commute is anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on what time I leave. It's DRIVING, which suck because it costs mucho dinero and I cannot read or rest or study..but I really love my job and my boss, so it is worth it. Sometimes I question it because of the expense, but fr now it is the right choice.

I now commute 40 minutes to and from work, depending on traffic. I have commuted 90 minutes in the past and, under different family circumstances, would do it again for the right job.

I used to commute from Farmingdale to Newark on the train everyday. It was just about 2 hours travel time door to door. While I LOVED my job, it really was life sucking as come the weekends, I was just too comatose to do anything.

In my case it was supposed to have been a temporary thing until the office moved to NYC, but in the end they decided to stay in NJ and I was offered a relo package. (which I took)

I used to drive about 1hour-1:15 to work in good condiitons. The worst - in bad snow - 3 hours to get home. ...my company moved so now it's about 20-30 minutes each way.

But it's a great job with great perks, I can't complain.

I may just have always been spoiled but I have never had a commute longer than 50 minutes so 1.5 hours seems like way too long for me.

If it was a dream job that paid me lets say 50k more than I make now I would consider it. But that is 3 hours of your day, 15 hours of your week that I would want to know I am being fairly compensated for.

i had 2 different summer jobs in 2 different cities this year. for my job in NY I commuted from LI to NYC and it was about 1.5 hours each way

would leave work at 6pm, and my train would get in at 7:25, by the time I got back to my house it was closer to 7:35. I was miserable at first spending an extra 3 hours a day on my commute, but after a few weeks I mastered sleeping and reading on the train which I somewhat enjoyed. However, I was away from DH at the time and it would make me sad to miss out on that much time with him for a commute, unless he was making the same commute with me.

For the other job it was about 15 min there, and 20 minutes back door to door. It was so weird to get home so much earlier and quicker.

I could do a long commute for some time but not as a permanent thing

My commute to NYC right now is 1:30-1:40 door to door. To be honest, some days it's AWFUL.... I work way up on the Upper East and it's a nightmare getting to Penn.
Somedays are worse than others, but the worst part for me is that the work day is 12 hour day no matter what..
I hope I don't have to do this forever, but for the mean time it's ok.

I have a *not* awesome job and take a 6:26AM train and get to my desk just at 8AM.

When I'm lucky, I catch the 5:11PM home and walk in the door around 6:45. Otherwise I'm stuck with the 5:47 and get in after 7PM.
