how long to ttc after mc?

How long did you wait to ttc after a mc? Im getting such a mixed response on whether or not it's safe to ttc right away. My primary doctor said to wait 3 months, but the NP at his office told me to just wait a month. The NP at my ob/gyn told me to wait a week for inter course then it's safe to try right away. I want to start trying again right away, but is it dangerous if it happens again so soon after ?

Basically, you want the inflammation in your uterus to go down and for your lining to repair itself - both things which impact implantation and is related to the health of the pregnancy. Poor implantation can cause implantation failure, miscarriage, or complications later on in the pregnancy.


As hard as it is to be patient when trying to get pregnant, ultimately you want the BEST environment possible for the health of the pregnancy and baby- not to mention your own health.

I was always told after a chemical to wait ONE cycle to try over. After other losses (ranging from 7-8wks.. and even my 17wk loss) I was told to wait TWO cycles. Three months seems like a lot to me, personally, but then again I am no doctor.

One thing I would not recommend is trying again right away. Your body needs time to heal. Yes there are people who did try right away and will tell you they got pregnant, etc etc.. but you will hear stories of all kinds and various opinions. I'm just saying what I would do if it were me - which is wait at least a month or two depending on when the loss took place.

I had a chemical at 5 weeks. My doctor told me it was ok to try again right away. I think everyone's doctors say something different. What Pennycat is saying though seems to make a lot of sense and also seems to be a pretty common consensus from what I've read online. I think it also depends on how far along your were as well.

I'm on my 3rd cycle since and I already have an appointment to meet with my RE again. I'm currently 5dpo so deep down I'm hoping that it won't come to that.

I waited one full cycle. It was a litte hard but I think you need it emotionally. Just try to put TTC out f your head if you can and wait for AF. After that, I tried with no luck. On my 3rd cycle post MC I got another BFP and so far so good (10 weeks). Honestly I think having two off was good. I needed the break. I was just starting to truly feel ok when I got my BFP anfi think that's a healthier time to face it all again. Good luck!

I had a chemical/early loss at 4.5 weeks. My highest beta was 16, and AF came 4-5 days late. I tried right away and got a BFN cycle. Maybe that was for the best.

My OB said to take one cycle off, but the nurse told me that there are mixed opinions in my practice with a loss that early and that there is no medical reason to wait. She said the Drs in my practice who say to wait with a chemical say that so they can more accurately date a future pregnancy. I do not have 28 day cycles and planned to use OPKs and emotionally needed to try right away rather than wait, so I tried. And failed.

We are now onto the next cycle post mc and are hoping this time we will get a sticky BFP

i had a MMC at 10 weeks, and my doctor told us to wait until i got AF, and then wait another full cycle, we got pregnant the next cycle.

The first MC the dr told me wait for two cycles.

Fast forward to a different dr. and my last MC my dr now told me to wait one cycle.

Thank you for your responses. I actually asked my Dr when I went for my last followup on the varying responses from different doctors, she actually said there isn't enough studies to show that it's unsafe to get pregnant again right away. She said a lot of doctors tell people to wait based on their emotional state when they followup. And that she always suggests waiting for AF just so it's easier to track when you conceived. It's just very frustrating, as you all know, when you're ttc to be told to wait.

I had a loss at 20 weeks and was told to wait 2 cycles. I know its so frustrating to have to wait.
