How many ounces?
I keep track of how many ounces Emily eats at each feeding and add them all up at the end of the day. When she first came home she was eating about 12-14 oz. a day. Now she's eating more like 20-22 ounces a day! I feel like she's eating so much!
She's also pooping like 12 times a day! They aren't huge poops but I am changing her diaper constantly because it must make her uncomfortable and she fusses as soon as she's made in her diaper.
Is this all normal? Is she eating/pooping too much? BTW she's eating pumped breast milk because of our nursing issues -- she only gets 1 formula feeding in the middle of the night because I don't pump in the middle of the night.

Re: How many ounces?
Miranda is supposed to get 18oz per day but she rarely will eat that much so for your daughters weight i think that's fine.

Re: How many ounces?
how did you know how much she was supposed to get? who told you? emily weighed 9 lbs 10 oz when born and 9-6 when we came home so i know she needs more then 6 lb or so babies. my husband thinks we're feeding her too much because everytime she's really crying bad i feed her, but that's what babies do i tell him! eat!

Re: How many ounces?
The doctor and the lactation consultant both told me 2&1/2 oz per pound per 24 hours and that was when she was still under her birth weight at around 7lb 6oz. Now I don't know if that formula was for a rapid weight gain or not. Either way I have yet to get 18oz in her unless she's getting more from nursing than I realize but I doubt it since I know how little I get when I pump.

Yikes. If it's 2.5 oz per pound, Christopher's eating WAY too much I can't wait until his next ped. appointment!

Re: How many ounces?
My son ate all the time as well. He is now a very strong and healthy 7 yr old. I also have to others 4 and 6. If the feeding soothes her crying and she holds it all down then I would say you are giving her exactly what she needs. As for the diaper situation she is doing fine. She will let you know when she's had enough or needs more. Your doing fine!!!
