How many "tests" do you have to take while pregnant?

I already did the genetic testing (blood work) at 6 weeks.

I'm scheduled for the 1st trimester screening and finger prick test on Monday at 11 weeks (I guess they start to test for Down's during this).

What other big tests for defects or abnormalities are left, what are they testing for and when do they happen?

The next few off the top of my head:

The AFP test (around 16 weeks or so). Another blood test which checks for Downs and other issues -- (Link: AFP Info)

The Level II sono (done around 18-20 weeks) checks for 'soft markers' which might indicate spina bifida, Downs, etc. Also when you can usually find out the baby's sex if you want!

And of course there is amnio, which I think can be done between 15-20 weeks (maybe later). If you feel that is right for you, they say it is the most accurate of all the tests out there. But it comes with some risks, as it is invasive -- which is why people are sometimes hesitant to have it done. (Link: Amnio)


All of these tests are optional, and I have also read/learned that there can be such things as 'false positive" with ANY of them. So I would suggest doing some of your own research to see if you feel it's right for you and your DH or not. I know we have struggled with each and every test and deciding whether or not to have it done --

and the glucose test is also done maybe around teh 25-27 week mark i think.
