how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
I am just going by the directions on the box, 1 tablespoon cereal and 4-5 tablespoons of formula or BM. Let me know what you are all doing! I do this 2x a day
Thanks

They shouldn't have solids until they're 6 months.

Re: how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
I give my 2 month old 1 tsp per 4 ounces of formula as per my pediatrician. Right now I'm giving to him in his bottle to help with acid reflux. He loves it and we've had no problems.
ETA: my ped also said that they start solids at 4 months so at that point we'll feed him cereal with a spoon

um, that's not true at all...
my DD started on cereal at 4 months and it was slow going. We started at 2-3 tbsp thinned with formula...
We gradually went up until it was like 5 tbsp and thicker...
Good Luck!

Ped told us at ds's 4 month visit to start him on cereal (which we did prior to the visit) all of my friends and family were told the same at their dc's 4 month visit~
we feed him 3 1/2 teaspoons,,we make it with formula..

DS has been on solids since he was 3 months old. He is now 5 months old now and takes a 1/2 bowl (baby bowl) for breakfast.

Re: how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
4 months is the right time to introduce...for Breastfed babies sometimes they say wait till 6 months, but formula fed the time is 4...
I've been feeding my son rice cereal since he's 10 weeks old. He has done great with it, and actually when we were all babies most of us were probably on cereal by 6 weeks! At least thats what the family told me, lol.

The AAP reccomends waiting until 6 months. Maybe its different for formula fed babies.

Re: how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
Thanks all, yes, I did start 1 week before her 4 month app't and Dr. said it was great to introduce it now. DD doesn't always finish the little bit that I make, so I was just curious as to what the other mommies give. It is so thinned out with formula, I don't even consider it a "solid" even though I know it is.

Re: how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
The AAP has guidelines but like any guideline, its just that...a guide. Every child is different...some NEED the cereal earlier when the formula/breastmilk isn't doing the trick. My son would drink and drink and not be satisfied but as soon as cereal was introduced he was a better baby.
Now for preemies and those children where allergies are a possible concern, then intoducing rice later is recommended but is the most hypoallergenic food there is..usually babies do great with it at any age!

Re: how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
My dr normally starts at 4 months...but he told me I could start at 3 1/2.
I started with 3-4 tbs 1x day and now we are up to 2x day.
I think the box says the 1 tbs and to make it so thin for just the first feeding they have of cereal.

Re: how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
Is 1 tablespoon of Cereal too little? I mix that with 4 tablespoons of formula. It is very thin.

that's what i have been told, and i agree. my ped said that it wasn't necessary for my lil girl because she is doing so well as she is currently being fed.

My child's doctor said I could start solids at 4 months. And he's a Formula Fed baby.
I don't care what the AAP reccomends or says. They are not with my child 24/7 I do it when I feel my child is ready. He wasn't quite ready at 4 months so we started again when he was closer to 5 months.

Re: how much cereal does your 4 month old eat?
Started my boys this weekend at 4 1/2 months. Kevin loved it, but Jack was more into spitting it out, so we are going to keep trying next weekend. I didn't give to much though....maybe three tsps.

I give my 7.5 month old 2.5 tbsp in the morning and 2.5 tbsp in the evening.
