How much did you budget for....
When you figured out how much you can afford for a mortgage, how much did you budget for food and miscellaneous (clothes, entertainment) for the month?
I think I didnt leave myself enough and i am getting nervous (can I point out I am going to closing tomorrow.

dont forget you'll get money back in taxes..you can choose to get it every paycheck instead of tax time!

We budget for food monthly ( 2 people, plus cats..lol) between $250-$300...and its always a little more then that.
We spend a week on clothes, entertainment,eating out, coffee, magazines, gas etc..about $100-$150 each. Again, budgeted but usually comes to more.
We try to keep the "extras" ( what I wrote above) at about $700 a month(without food), theres always a b-day or something like that ..
We think that this amount is WAY too much by the way and are trying to find ways to cut it down.

Maybe you need to cut out the entertainment stuff.
Instead of getting coffee out, make it at home.
Instead of buying magaxines, read them on the web or goto the free websites and try to get them from there.
Don't eat out as much, try to cook at home.
Only buy clothing that is on sale. Shop at the outlets in riverhead, or when things go into clearance.
If you want to save money, you need to cut down on the things that you are buying for yourself that you could also replace with doing it at home or not having those things at all.

I would presume the food & incidentals (gas, beauty/health care items, dry cleaning, etc). would be about the same. But I would try to have some extra since there's always something you will be needing when you move.
Good luck at your closing.

As far as miscellaneous goes...we budget about $400-$500 a month. Food is a whole other category we budget for. That's another $400-$500 a week depending on how hungry my husband is when we do the grocery shopping....
