How much do you pay for childcare?
I went out to dinner with some girls from work last night, who are mostly moms. I know having a baby is expensive, but I couldn't believe how much childcare is!
Also, if you have a family member watch them, do you pay them?
i realize this is a personal question, so feel free to just use the poll.

You might get more responses if you post this on parenting.
And to answer your question, DS goes to a school with an extended care program 3 days a week and it costs $950/mo.

None of these choices apply...I WISH they did! :) I think you need to add more options to the poll because these may be too low.

Re: How much do you pay for childcare?
I'd post this on Parenting.
When DS was in daycare, he was under 1 year old and we paid $250/week.

Re: How much do you pay for childcare?
I have been a nanny for years and have been involved on the admin end as well, hiring for families, training, etc. It's amazing how people view paying for childcare! Most people will pay someone more to clean their home than to take care of their child. A professional nanny is much more expensive than a childcare center (professional nanny should make about $20+/hr, plus benefits if full time), but regardless of how your child is cared for, pls consider the true value and worth of the service

Re: How much do you pay for childcare?
I have 2 kids
DS#1 goes to a daycare center 5 days/week and we pay $150/week (he's 3)
DS#2 goes to a babysitter 2 days/week and pay $25/day. My ILs watch him the other 3 days and we don't pay them.

Re: How much do you pay for childcare?
I babysit my friend's twins 2 days a week (12 hours each day) and they pay me $200 a week. It works out to like $4 and change per kid.

Yes people may pay more per hour for someone to clean their home, but their home isn't cleaned every single day for 8+hours. That's an absurd comparison.
To answer the OP, I paid $245 in a center when my DD was an infant.

Re: How much do you pay for childcare?
I don't have children yet, but I have friends who do.
One friend pays a little over $1600 per month for full time daycare (mon-friday 8am-6pm).
Another pays about $240/week (which is $960 per month) for the same type of care but at a different location.

Re: How much do you pay for childcare?
Right now my MIL babysits DS for free which was not planned! I waited too long to find daycare and there were long waitlists at all the daycare centers near me and I had no one to watch DS when I had to go back to work. My MIL offered to babysit and she won't take any money from us. The daycare centers I looked at were $1200-1500 per month for an infant.

We have no kids but my twin God daughters are in full-time daycare at my friends job in New Jersey (discounted). It's $1,150 per month, per child.

I agree - plus, some of us do NOT pay for someone to clean their homes, get mani/pedis 3 times a year at most, go to supercuts for haircuts, and buy clothing on sale and on consignment because of childcare costs.
