How much does a movie critics review affect your decision of whether or not to watch a movie?

Another question - What makes them professional critics?

Some of the best movies I have ever seen got horrible reviews from the critics. Yet some movies get rave reviews. I never understood this.

I never EVER listen to critics. I rather listen to people coming out of the theater that just saw the movie than critics.

Never listen to critics. I have wierd taste in movies, so they never like what I like anyways.

I never listen to critics what they like is only their opinion. Half the time I think they lie and say they like films just because they should.

if a movie got really bad reviews but i still want to see it, i usually wait until it comes out on video. there are only a few movies i would feel i had to see on the big screen.

generally i rely on my grandparents for movie reviews. they have great taste in movies and they see a ton of them!

I think of them like a weatherman/woman. Critics raved about American Beauty and I saw it and HATED it. So I really dont put much into it.

I'll often do the OPPOSITE of what the critics say. I don't like most critic's "must-see movies". and many movies that got panned, are some of my favorite movies.

I actually do look at reviews. If something gets a lot of good reviews and hype it makes me curious to see it. I will never NOT see a movie if the critics pan it. I tend not to read reviews of movies that I really want to see because sometimes the reviewer gives away too much or spoils the plot with innuendo and it makes me not want to bother seeing the flick.

Rather than critics, I have a couple of friends that I use as a barometer. One friend I HATE everything she loves and the other I usually love what she does- this is the way I pick.

I am a big time movie person love them. Sometimes If a movie gets really bad reviews I will wait.

I look at the reviews tho from a few diffrent places. Entertainment weekly, people, newsday. I will also ask my friends if anyone they know saw the movie and weather they liked it or not.

My biggest dissapointemnt was Bug with ashley Judd it got 3 stars and rave reviews I thought it was horrible. I was so dissapointed.

ALso I never bother with reviews on horror movies at all because most of the time they hate them no matter what. Plus I have very low standards for horror movies lol.

I will only read a review if I'm looking for a rental. And if I do, it's only one person's reviews - Peter Travers from Rolling Stone. Probably 95% of the movies that he gave 3 or more stars to, we really liked.

Otherwise, I try not to even watch the commercials of a movie I want to see, listen to anyone talk about it, or read the threads here.

I've had more movies ruined for me by listening to other people (Titanic among others) that I can't stand it anymore.

Not to mention, we went to a movie the other day where the very last scene - the deciding scene - is in the commercial! So the WHOLE movie, I'm waiting for that scene. I know it's the end and of COURSE now I know how the movie ends. P*ssed me off to no end.

Usually what ya hear is EXACTLY how it ends up. So I usually listen to critics or others advice before I see a movie.
