How much is/did your 2 mos sleep/stay awake during the day??

Hi Ladies!

My DD is 8 weeks old and while she sleeps pretty good at night (thanks to the big bottle we give her right before bed!), I feel like she sleeps a lot during the day as well.

It seems like she can only stay up for like an hour 1/2 or the max 2 hours before wanting to sleep (and if she doesnt she's incredibly cranky) and then she sleeps all the way to her next feeding, and sometimes past that!

How much is/did your 2 month old sleep for during the day and how much do/did they stay up for?

Also...what activities do you do with them?

TIA

DD is 8 weeks also.

She is usually up for an hour to an hour and a half before she needs to nap. And will generally nap for an hour to an hour and a half.

She has about 4 ounces every 2 to 3 hours.

We try to put her on her activity mat for 10 minutes or so every day.

DD is 11 weeks and is just now able to stay up for 2 hours at a time - sometimes. More often she is only up for 1 to 1.5 hours before she needs to nap again. She sleeps well at night so I'm not worried. She takes short naps (no more than an hour unless in the car or stroller) so I think this is why.

I posted the same question a few days ago. My DS is 10 weeks and does the same thing. He sleeps through the night also so I guess its normal.

He eats, takes a 10 minute nap, then wakes up and wants to play. We play for about 2-3 hours usually and then he'll nap. Lately he's been skipping naps and going straight 4 hours to the next bottle. Sometimes he'll get cranky right away and I'll put him in the crib. Sometimes he'll just pass out playing by himself.

I love to play, so here are some things I do. We have such a blast, DH thinks I'm a lunatic but whatever Chat Icon

I carry him around the house and talk to him, describe all the objects and what they are for, etc etc. Always in kind of a high pitch happy tone

We walk to the floor mirror and we look at each other into it, then we make faces and laugh. I learned from the "baby can read workshop video" a great way to help promote speech, is to stick your tongue out in the mirror together. DS doesn't copy me yet, but he laughs when I do it, so its fun.

I lay him in activity mat with all the hanging toys, mirror, baby jukebox thing that plays music. He kicks around in there for a while. He loves to play a lone and will go at this for an hour at least. I'll hear him moaning for sleep at some point and put him in a quiet crib.

We sing songs like "head and shoulders knees and toes" (learned it from baby can read video) I will tap each body part for him, he thinks its so much fun. I add a verse "feet, feet, kick your feet" and "hands, hands, clap your hands" and motion his hands and feet. "Hands up baby hands up" and I add "hand down baby hands down".

When he gets kind of cranky, I sit him in the swing and sit in a chair next to him and sing and motion to itsy bitsy spider.

We watch some tv together, and talk about the characters, only very slow educational cartoon type things. Where we can talk about their eyes and their feet, their hats on their heads.
He's really into watching interviews he likes to see and hear people talk. Old black and white movies are great for this. I figure as long as the camera moves slow, its probably not a bad thing. We don't really do this every day, but when things get boring we do.

He just recently started to reach and grasp for things that interest him (from the side, not from above yet). So I'll jiggle a toy and well practice grabbing it.

I'll hide and creep up on him, whisper from behind him "im coming... im coming ... im coming to kiss you" and kiss him. a little scary but he always shakes it off and laughs.

We are really bad about doing tummy time, he really doesn't like it.

Would love some more ideas! Anyone else?

my DD is sleeping a lot too...she's going to be 7 weeks this th....I was juuust thinking the same thing...but i guess from what everyone has said it's normal.

I wake her up 30-60 min after her scheduled feeding if she isn't up on her own. but for the most part she wakes up and wants to eat on cue every 3-4 hrs.

we try to play right after she wakes up before she eats and again after. I find stimulation (talking, shaking toys, burping, and changing positions etc.) keeps her up a little longer....anything with swaying/bouncing makes her sleep.
