How much should I plan on spending on a laptop?

I have a Dell Inspion 9400 I think is the # business class with upgraded memory. We paid 1200 for mine.

we just got a dell inspiron 1525 and after all programs were put in we spent about $1k. love it!!!!

I think people typically spend too much on laptops since most people just use them for basic tasks (surfing the internet...using spreadsheets or microsoft word). Unless you are going to be using advanced programs I would go with this Compaq which is onsale at Best Buy for only $399 (used to be $599).

Dh got me a vaio...he spent alot but it was not necessary.
If you are only using for basic internet then you can get the bottom line laptop

i bought this today too! it is onsale at best buy for $599. def love it alot more then my last laptop that i had which just died on me.

i got an HP for about $730, with the extended warranty it came to just about $1k. i LOVE it - the picture, the speed, everything on it is amazing.
i wouldn't recommend a dell... my DH and my sister both have had problems with their dell laptops and PCs.
