How much time is involved in an IUI?

I also need to have an HSG and the IUI would be with clomid. Will I have to miss a lot of time from work?

You still go for monitoring - but as far as the actual IUI you mean?
For us, we had to bring DHs sample to the andrology lab at stony brook, wait an hour to get his sample prepared, and then drive it 5 mins up the road to my dr's office- where we skipped the line, and within 5 mins we were done (literally). HTH.

I am going to be doing a medicated IUI with clomid so I guess I have to go in for monitoring for that too right? Amd then for the actual IUI.

Just want to see if I would miss alot of work because if that was the case I don't think I would be able to do it. I know that seems like a stupid reason but I don't want to miss so many days for something that might not even work

depends on your clinic, the actual procedure takes less than 2 minutes.

At RSNY they told me I should be prepared to take 1/2 day off of work, I thought that was ridiculous, and that was my last cycle there

My RE clinic only did IUI's between 8:30 and 11:00 am. I was usually no later than 30 minutes for work when doing IUI's. The IUI itself is very quick.

Also, I was never later for work while I was being monitoring. My RE Clinic has morning monitoring from 5:45 am -7:30 am. I was always REALLY early for work on days I had to go for blood and sono.

Here's my scenario...I work in downtown manhattan. I live in Babylon. My RE is in W. Islip and Stony Brook (RSofNY). I go for my sono/bloodwork appointments in West Islip. My normal train to get me to work for 8:30 is at 7. Typically my RE appointment is at 7 but I try to get there at 6:45 to be the "first one waiting." Usually i manage to make the 7:45 train which gets me to my office at 9:15 which leaves me with a 15 minute lunch. When it came to the IUIs i had to take half a day because I had to go to St. Brook. DH would "do his thing" and I'd race like a bandit with the sperm in the bra to St. Brook for my 7am appointment. Wait an hour for the "guys" to spin and I'd be out of there by 8:15-8:30....at this point I had to drive all the way back to my train station which all told usually got me to work about 11ish. But 1/2 a day once a month wasnt too bad IMO. IVF on the other hand

It depends on where you work and where your doctor's office is.
My RE is in Stony Brook and I work in NYC. On monitoring days I would make sure to get the 7am appointment and could usually be at work by 9-9:30. When I did IUI, I had 7am drop off and 8am IUI. I would usually be out of the office by 8:30, which would get me to work at about 11, which is not a half day, just a couple of hours late. If I worked closer to the RE's office I probably would have never been late.

It does depend on where you go. For me, the monitoring is usually done anytime in the morning (I get appts by 7am). Then the day of IUI, Dh brings his sample in by 7 & usually they call me & give me an appt for anytime I need during the day. Last one I went at 2:15. I was on my way home by 2:55 & that was after laying there for 20 minutes after the IUI & then getting blood taken.

Hopefully your RE is as flexible as mine

I've always gone for my b/w and sonos by 7:30 am, and gotten to work by 9:30.

Umm ....I go for one appointment at CD3... it is usually before work or I just miss a half an hour. THen I have about 1-2 more sono appointments before the IUI... same thing time wise. Then the IUI I usually take a half of day off work.

THe HSG... I scheduled it in the afternoon and took a half day. If you do it in the morning I would take the fulll day.

I had the HSG done during lunch and went right back to work. The actual procedure took about 15 minutes, but I was at the office for about an hour.

I have not had an IUI yet but have been on Clomd and monitored. At my RE's office, all monitoring is done between 7:00 and 8:30 AM and you don't need an appointment - you just walk in. I am usually in and out of there pretty quickly.

While on Clomid, I went for CD3 bloodwork and then was monitored with a sonogram on CD12. Since I was ready, I triggered that day. If I wasn't, I would have had to go back another day to check again.

I think, though I am not positive, that they do all IUI's in the morning.
