how much to make a cape into a colonial?
we're playing with the idea of buying a cape and make it into a colonial.
anyone done this before? or anyone have an idea how much this will cost?
eta: would it make a difference if the cape is rear-dormed?

does this significantly raise your taxes? I've been considering this route as well..

Re: how much to make a cape into a colonial?
We have had some problems along the way - I don't really want to talk about it. I want to emphasize on the importance of getting a reputable contractor. Make sure you research whom ever you get to work on your house.
They started DEMO in December and we are almost near the end now. We added 4 bedrooms - 1 bathroom and a laundry room upstairs. A full attic up above and downstairs we moved the stairs, and boiler. We knocked down all of the walls and made the house one huge space. We also redid our kitchen. Our cabinets should be in this week and the rest of the electric will be done by this weekend....hopefully.
Our taxes will go up but not a drastic amount since we did not increase the footing of the property. We built up but not back. If you build out in the front or the back your taxes will increase a lot.

this is exactly what we would have to do if we buy the cape we like. everything in the house need to be updated so i'm not sure if it's worth it.
if u don't mind me asking, how much is this costing you?
