How much to pay my sitter
I'm in a awkward place since my sitter is a very close friend. She is watching Charlie 2 days a week for a total of 8 hours. A friend of mine pays her sitter $8 an hour but my 16 year old niece gets $12 to sit at night.
What is the going rate for daycare?

Re: How much to pay my sitter
I would go for the middle - $10/hr
That's what I usually pay.
I can't believe your 16 yr old niece is getting $12!!!!

Re: How much to pay my sitter
My babysitter is my best friend and we give her $150 a week. She watches DS anywhere from 1 - 5 days (depending on DH's work schedule) and for 9 hours each day that she watches him.

Re: How much to pay my sitter
I think $10 per hour is reasonable and $12 is more generous. $15 is the high end of what I've been hearing, more so for mulitple child families.

Re: How much to pay my sitter
We have somebody come for Saturday nights, and randomly when I need during the week and we pay her $10 an hour. She is a friend of a friend, mid twenties in grad school and that is what she asked for. So I think $10 is good, especially if it is only 1 child.
$15 an hour sounds insane to me! But I guess if its 2-3 kids its different.

Re: How much to pay my sitter
We pay my mom $10 an hour but she drives about 20 miles to come to our house and watch Miranda so if you were taking him to her I might pay her the $8 and hour.

Really? Wow I guess I had a good gig. In high school I was getting 8 an hour and by the time I was a freshman in college I think I was getting 12 or 14.
ETA: I'm not that young either, I'm 31 so it was definitely back in the day.

Re: How much to pay my sitter
I had a high school kid for some hours during the summer and I paid her $10 an hour and as I worked from home she had no responsibilites as I was in the next room.
I am looking for someone now for the same job - DD is older but still no responsibilities as I will be here and I have been told the going rate is $15 out here - hamptons....so that is what I am thinking I will have to pay. Considering its $20 an hour for cleaning out here I think $15 isnt too bad!!

Re: How much to pay my sitter
Teachers at daycare get anywhere from $9-11/hour to babysit.
I would ask her what she charges & have her come up with the number before sitting.
eta. Just realized this was a daytime/weekly thing. Is she sitting at your home or her home? It should make a difference in price.

It's just two mornings a week for 4 hours each. She comes to my Mom's house and watches him. My Mom takes over for the second half of the day.
