I said whatever you can afford, to me it's the thought that counts. Plus, you can get something really meaningful that doesn't have to cost a lot of money. I know that I would have been really upset if my brother & his wife or BIL & his wife spent a lot on a gift knowing they are both saving for houses.

Sounds like $100 or so is a good ballpark to aim for.

I am of the mind that you should never spend more than you can afford - regardless of the relationship.

At the time my sister had her first DC I was able to host her shower and pay for it in full and buy her crib. For her second child, the most I could afford was a simple outfit that I bought on sale.

I would get something in the $100-$200 range assuming I could afford it.

I agree. A sibling gift should be something like a PNP, Stroller, Highchair... IMO

I agree. It's not the amount. It's the thought put into a gift.

ITA. Whatever you can afford, I'm sure you'll find special things to buy, regardless of price.

I think it really depends on what the buyer can afford.

We bought the bedding and some of the accessories to go with it.

I dont have siblings, but if I did I would try to get the biggest items next to whatever my mother was getting as long as it didnt break my bank :)

or make a huge basket of all the things I know you need once the baby arrives..

Me too. Also, I would add a few more items with this. My brother is only 10 years old so we I have a long time to think about this but when the time does arrive his child will be spoil rotten.

Obviously, first and foremost, what you can afford - and your sibling would probably know your situation and understand if you couldn't spend a lot. But, I would go for a big item.

We got SIL her Maclaren and a few outfits for baby, so I believe we spent about $300.

I am pitching in with my mom for a double stroller that my sister needs. We will not get this until the twins are about 6 months old...it is pretty $$

for her shower, I got her a few things off the registry (exersaucer, bottles, clothing, etc)
