How much water do you need to swallow pills?

I was taking some cold medicine this morning, and just thought about how much water people use to take their pills. 99% of the time, I swallow them dry. DW had a roommate in college that would swallow a mouthfull of water, tilt her head back, fill her mouth with water, and float one pill in her mouth. She'd swallow that, then immediately follow up with the rest of the glass of water, if not more. That was PER PILL!

This isn't Health related, since it's not about WHAT pills people take, it's just a question about HOW they take pills.....

usually a swig or two, but if i HAVE TO, i can take them dry... although not my favorite

I used be like your wife's roomate.

I'm a little better now, but I still usually take a drink, before the pill, and then take another one to wash it down. And I also take them indivudally, eventhe I only take excederin & advil, which aren't large.

If need be I can TOTALLY swallow them with no water at all- I just scare up a bunch of saliva and down it with that....

If water is available though- just a small sip...

When I was younger I always had a hard time swallowing pills, I was on children's chewables for the longest time. Finally then one day I just got it. I need a swig of something to drink, and I still do them 1 by 1, and then I usually finish what I'm drinking to help it down.

I don't think I could ever take them dry, no way.

My mouth becomes insanely dry whenever I have to take a pill. Because of that I just drink enough water to prevent the pill from getting stuck on my tongue, or worse, opening up and leaving a bitter taste.

I need a lot of water to get it down. I'm a gagger, so it's tough forme to swallow a pill whole. A cup is fine, and I can swallow a few pills with a cup of water.

Either dry or just a little water, my dh on the other hand CAN"T swollow pills for the life of him. He has to eat them then swollow

I'm such a baby when it comes to swallowing pills!!!! Only round, coated pills like advil are ok. If they're oblong, forget it!! I need a whole glass of water.

Dh is like and swallows a few at a time w/o water. Once in a while he'll take the tiniest sip just to annoy me.

I can swallow them dry if I have to but I usually take a sip or two of a drink.

I am exactly like your DW's roomate. I even have to stand over a sink in case it doesn't go down the first time and I have to spit it out.

No idea what it is, I just can't do it. DH has tried to teach me. lol

I don't really ever take pills though... i even take Flintstones chewables for my daily vitamin.

You have to be careful with certain pills..

My sisters friend burned a hole in her esophagus when she swallowed 3 ibuprofern with no water!! The did not make it to her stomach, and eroded there instead...causing pain and damage. I would never have known that could happen!!

One gulp of water or whatever is enough for me but I can do it dry if I had to.
