How often are you contacted after interview to let you know you didn't get the position?

Of the four interviews I've been on this summer, I received letters/e-mails from 3 of them notifying me that someone else was chosen. One Principal even personally e-mailed me herself to let me know they went with someone with more experience but I did very well during the interview and she would be recommending me for leave replacements. I've always been notified, so I thought it was standard.

My 4th interview on Tuesday I heard nothing from. I know they were moving quickly, and I was called by HR to come in for the interview an hour before she wanted to schedule it. I figured if I didn't hear anything from Friday, the position went to someone else. It's hard waiting and not hearing back, especially since I've always been contacted.

Have you always been contacted? Or do you just assume if you don't hear by a certain date you didn't get the position?

I went on one interview at the beginning of the summer and NEVER heard back from them.

When I was interviewing last year I would usually get a letter about 2-3 weeks later.

I hate the wait!

there have been times where i havent heard back, or i've received a letter weeks later in the mail

Thanks ladies. Teachers reported back to school today, so they must have someone in place for the position. I'm a little disappointed, being so close to the start of the year I felt like this was my last shot at a job for September. It seemed promising, I e-mailed my resume on a whim (they didn't have a posting up) and HR called me within 15 minutes to get me in for an interview that day since they remembered me from an interview at my college over a year ago & thought I'd be a great fit still. I was hoping to hear back either way given at how prompt they were with calling for the interview, but I guess not.

don't loose hope! i was called and then hired for a full time job in october years ago! you just never know how things will work out. good luck!

One time, for a leave position, DH did an interview at a district and that was that -- he heard nothing. A MONTH WENT BY. In the meantime, he had taken something else and randomly they call and offered him the job! It was SO weird. I mean, he had something else at that point so it didn't matter but I remember him going, wow could you wait any longer? It was so bizarre. You just never know -- some places never let him know, others sent a letter, and a few called and let him know he didn't get it. Go figure.

Then, he was just offered a job (finally a tenure full-time job this year) and he went to the first interview, demo, and then met the Sup. and it all went so fast -- then, he met the Sup. and NOTHING...... over TWO weeks later she called and he got the job.

So, hope that makes you feel better! You never know.

Thanks everyone. It was for a private school, so I interviewed with two principals. I saw today that their higher ups are holding a job fair today. Maybe once today is over they'll combine all their interview notes and make a decision.
