How often do you re-grout the bathroom tiles?

How often do you re-grout the bathroom tiles?
Do you do this yourself? Or hire someone?
I live in an apt, and my super did a crappy patch job on the grout. When i scrub it, it falls out in pieces.
Can i do it myself? Tips? Thank you!

Good ? I was wonderring this too. I think my bathroom has the original grout from 75 years ago!! Certainly not white...I would love to freshen up the floors and walls.....

My dad re-did the grout in the second bathroom of their home, and he first took out all the old grout and then put in the new grout. I recall that we could not use that shower for a few days afterwards so it would dry. He also caulked with a silica sealant so that the new grout would stay ok.

Thanks LSP! i don't think my super used a silica sealant- he just slopped the grout on and told us to cover it with plastic when we took showers. i guess that would explain why it is falling apart!
