How often should you clean your chimney?

I wonder, how often does your chimney need to be cleaned? We had it done right after we moved in less than 2 yrs ago. How often does it need to be done? Annually? Less often?

(we have oil heat)

Your oil company should do it once a year as part of your annual maintenance.

they do service the burner and clean it as often as necessary, but they don't go up onto the roof and clean the chimney....they've never mentioned it so I'm sure that'd be extra!

hmmmm, I remember in our last apartment that the contract incuded it, but maybe the landlord paid for a higher contract. We paid the monthly fee, but I am not sure what the landlord negotiated.

Which service do you have?

Our serivce contract doesn't include that either. I asked a few of my family and friends and nobody has that included.

It's not very expensive, like $30 or something.

We have a service contract with Meenan - we're happy with them and all, but I wouldn't have even thought to have that included in the contract.

Yep, we're paying someone $30 to clean the chimney - not bad!
