How old was your DC when..............
You started to leave them home alone..... Maybe for a short trip around the corner to the grocery store?

My kids are much to young, but I was left home alone by a babysitter at 10 and my parents ended up firing her. I think 12 is the earliest I would leave a child home alone and the child would have to be a mature 12. For some kids I could see needing to wait until they are 14.

I'm nowhere near there yet, but I can see maybe 10-11 to run around the block. More like 13 for any extended time.

This is kind of where I am at right now ... I have 13 and 10 year old boys .. My 13 year old I can leave for about an hour or 2 and he's fine .. My 10 year old (will be 10 in a few weeks) I just started to leave home when I have to run around the block or drop my other DS at a sports practice. Seems to be ok because both of them are very mature .. The only thing I worry about over the summer is when we open the pool.. Then I'll be a little less willing to leave them ..
