How old were you when you stopped..
Believing in the Big Guy???
DH and I were just talking with my stepson, who is 13, and he was talking about Santa and what he was going to leave him this year. He said he was going to leave him doughnuts and DH tried so hard to see if he was faking, by saying I don't like doughnuts, but my stepson kept going. DH then asked him if he knew the real deal behind Santa and he asked what he was talking about. DH just dropped it, I think because he was a little shocked. I had to leave the room, I almost choked on my hot chocolate when realizing he was serious. Don't ya think 13 is a tad bit old to believe there is still a Santa?? I mean...he's in Jr. High!!!

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
OMG I don't believe that! Maybe 5 or 6? I have an older brother, so I was always kind of more grown up than my age, trying to be like him. By 13 I was dating and getting hit on by the mall santa My friend and I thought it would be fun to get our pic on his lap, until he pinched our @sses!
Seriously, I think I would tell him the truth. He would be the laughingstock of school if he ever said what santa brought him or something! And he would never live that down. When you're old enough to have the birds and the bees talk, you're old enough to know about santa and the tooth fairy!

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I was 9.
My three nephew (13) stopped believing when they were 9, 10 and the last one still believes. My niece (9) stopped believing last year.
I think that over 10 is too old to believe. My nephew gets made fun of for still believing.
While I'd say I can't imagine telling or how angry I'll be when someone blows it for my kids - but I don't want them believing too far.

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I was in 4th grade I was going to Catholic School and my teacher said something to the class about how there was no Santa Claus and I was devestated . I went home crying, and my mother went to the school the next day to talk to the teacher, who apologized

I was 6. My older brother (who was about to turn 9) had just found out and decided he didn't want me to believe anymore either

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I was in 5th grade..Kids can be mean. About 1/2 of the class ruined it for the rest of us. It was very sad when my younger sister stopped believing. (There are 10 years between us) so, basically we "had:" to believe my whole life, which was fun. Now, I have a 1 year old nephew, so, the believing starts all over

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I was in 4th grade. My friend and I had been wondering if Santa was real and her mom overheard us talking and came in and told us that he wasn't. My parents were very upset at my friends mom for taking it upon herself to tell me.

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
My step-daughter, who is 9 knows the truth. It was funny...because the other day she said that kids in school were talking about it and she didn't say anything because she didn't want to ruin it for them.

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I think 13 may be a bit too old. I'm surprised his friends haven't said anything to him. My sister told me and then took me into the basement to show me where the presents were hidden I think I was 9 or 10

I was about 9 or 10. DH was around the same age. I used to think I could see Rudolph in the sky from my window. Usually was a plane with the red lights.

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I was 5. I said to my mom, "Come on, Mom, tell me the truth, there's no Santa, is there?" And she started to cry. Then I pressed on and said, "Ok, the Easter Bunny? The tooth fairy?" And she started to cry more. I still remember the conversation! It was in the middle of the summer, and I told her I would forget by Christmas time.

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I'm jewish so as soon as I was old enough to be sad that Santa never visited my house- like 7 or 8- my mother told me. But I wasn't allowed to say anything to the Christian kids because it was not nice to ruin their fun. I remember this so well- she said I would be punished if I mouthed off the truth to anyone. LOL!!!! I lived in fear for years!!!

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I was in like 4th or 5th grade (I think). I read it in a magazine article - it read "When to Tell Kids There's No Such Thing as Santa" - I was so sad! I left a note on the bathroom mirror telling my mom I knew.

Re: How old were you when you stopped..
I think 13 is a little old, but also sweet. santa Claus is still alive in my heart! Maybe you can tell him that lots of people dont believe in Santa so when other kids say this he is not shocked or embarrassed.
